Job summary

Tyson Foods’ Cobb hatchery in Rose, OK is hiring a Hatchery Processing Labor. The role involves inspecting and processing eggs and chicks, maintaining the hatchery, and performing sanitation and data-entry tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Starting pay is $17.00 per hour with additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends. This entry-level, full-time position comes with benefits from day one, including health, dental, vision, and 401(k) options, along with education and welfare

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer.
  • No additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months.
  • If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and process eggs for incubation and chicks, and maintain/clean hatchery facility.
  • Grade and transfer eggs from pedigree flocks for hatch and observe shell color/texture.
  • Record data entry of egg and chick information onto touch screen tablet.
  • Perform sanitation activities to clean and sanitize hatchery areas and equipment.
  • Participate in hatch process by wingbanding, vaccinating chicks, and delivering to brooding houses.
  • Euthanize selected or substandard chicks by company-approved methods.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Hatchery Processing Labor Cobb Three Springs Farm Rose, Ok Schedule/Hours: Sunday thru Thursday or Tuesday thru Saturday 5:20 AM to 5:20 PM, including holidays. Start and end times may vary. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Position Summary

Inspect and process eggs for incubation, inspect and process chicks, maintain/clean hatchery facility. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Grade and transfer eggs from pedigree flocks for hatch (10%)
  • Tray eggs which consists of: observe shell color and texture as well as other external characteristics such as streaks, shadings, discolorations, and size.
  • Transfer eggs by examination of position of yolk, and size of air cell; place hatching eggs in hatch buggies; place broken, dirty or other substandard eggs in container (15%)
  • Record data entry of egg and chick information onto touch screen tablet (10%)
  • Perform the following sanitation activities: operate tray washer, remove eggshells. Use broom, power washer, scratch pads and squeegee to clean and sanitize setters, hatchers, egg rooms, tables, drains and chick processing areas (20%)
  • Participate in hatch process by wingbanding chicks, vaccination of chicks using gun to inject vaccine, count chicks. Deliver chicks to Brooding houses. (15%)
  • Euthanize selected or sub standard chicks by company approved methods of euthanizia. (20%)
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: clean hatchery office, break room and restrooms; sanitize vehicles; assist with egg orders. (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements

The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 40 pounds to move items such as tray of eggs, etc; tools, such as wheeled buggy, may be required to occasionally move up to 1,000 pounds such as egg buggies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor/padded floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; weekly changing of filters and lightbulbs; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Tools and Equipment

Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments. Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and company issued footwear are required. Ear plugs will be used as required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.

Chemicals Commonly Used

Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid,Clorox wipes, Lysol, Formaldehyde, Chlorofoam, Acid-a-foam, bleach, hand sanitizer, TEK, PI 1200, PI 2100, Comet, PineSol and etc.

Safety

Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
