Job summary

Cobb is hiring at the Cleveland Hatchery for a position focused on inspecting chicks in the hatcher to ensure quality and fitness for processing. The role includes monitoring hatch times, performing QA checks, and supporting maintenance across hatchery operations.

The job requires physical ability to lift, stand for long periods, and comply with biosecurity guidelines. Eligible candidates must meet minimum work-history criteria and pass required safety tests.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months.
  • If applicants have been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous full time students in the last 36 months may not need to count work history.
  • Pulmonary function and respirator fit test required.

Requirements

Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.

Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.

Location: Cleveland Hatchery

Schedule: Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule. Shift Schedule: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, including holidays, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until job is complete. Typically, this position will average 40+ hours a week. Hours are subject to change depending on Production needs.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for inspection of the chicks in the hatcher to ascertain quality and fitness for processing. Chicks will be monitored in the hatcher baskets to help determine pull times and/or hatcher adjustments. The initial check starts around 9:00AM and constitutes removing hatch buggies, momentarily, out of the hatcher, counting hatched chicks from a designated hatch basket, taking rectal temperatures, and determining through calculations any hatcher adjustments necessary. Additional checks are required every two hours, utilizing other monitoring methods. Other responsibilities include performing required quality assurance (QA) checks in other areas of the hatchery.

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements

The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering on-site and changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. The Company provides appropriate clothing and footwear. No external jewelry may be worn on the jobsite excluding medical ID bracelets and necklaces. Only body piercings covered by an on-farm clothing are permitted. Must be willing to sign an agreement to not own and avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands And Work Environment
  • Physical: Must be able to lift/move 50 lbs. and must be able to push/pull 1000-1500 lbs. (on wheels). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend over; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Respirator, Safety glasses, Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required when handling chemicals. Ear plugs will be used as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Formaldehyde is in use at the facility, disinfectants, lubricants, and Virocid (Synergize).
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments.
  • Safety: Team Member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Lock out Tag out, and Personal Protective equipment. Team Member is expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety related risks.
