Job summary

Oerlikon Group seeks an Inspector 1 to perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of coated parts and verify conformance to drawings and specifications.

You will measure coating thickness, adhesion, and surface quality using precision tools, document results, and maintain traceability. The role requires reading engineering drawings, strong attention to detail, and willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with safety prioritised.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade education preferred.
• Previous experience in manufacturing quality, inspection, or coatings environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, microscopes, or similar equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Experience with MS Word and Internet Explorer.
• Knowledge of industrial cutting tools preferred but not required.
• Strong work ethic.
• Able to lift up to 44lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, and handle parts throughout the shift.
• Work in a manufacturing environment involving coated parts, tooling, and inspection equipment.
• Use personal protective equipment as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of customer parts before and after coating.
• Inspect parts for surface quality, defects, and dimensional conformity.
• Measure coating thickness, adhesion, roughness, hardness, and other characteristics using inspection equipment.
• Review customer drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements.
• Conduct coating performance and quality tests per internal procedures and customer requirements.
• Identify nonconforming material and initiate disposition actions.
• Ensure inspection results meet acceptance criteria.
• Document inspection and test results in quality systems.
• Maintain full traceability of parts, inspection results, and job records.
• Support audits (ISO 9001, customer audits).
• Communicate quality concerns to production, engineering, and operations teams.
• Assist with root cause analysis and CAPA actions.
• Support continuous improvement to reduce defects, rework, and scrap.
• Help maintain and improve inspection procedures and standard work instructions.
• Work with coating technicians and team members to support production flow.
• Verify proper handling, masking, fixturing, and packaging of customer parts.
• Follow safety, environmental, and quality policies and maintain a clean work area.
