Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Coatings Inspector I to perform basic inspection of protective coating work under a CIP Level 2 or 3 inspector's direction. You will verify surface prep, measure ambient conditions and film thickness, and document every step on tanks, structures, pipe, and concrete.

You will work with established protocols, list readings, and maintain logs; the role requires traveling to job sites in Texas and possibly beyond, with a path to Level 2 after required

Qualifications

• AMPP CIP Level 1 certification is required and current.
• 1+ years in industrial coatings application or inspection.
• Comfortable working in tanks, on structures, and around blasting and spray operations.
• Meticulous with instruments and records.

Responsibilities

• Measure and record ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) before and during application; verify surface preparation to SSPC/NACE cleanliness and profile standards; measure wet and dry film thickness; check holidays and defects; maintain daily coating inspection log and photograph stages.
• Follow project specifications and industry standards (SSPC/NACE/AMPP); document readings and reports accurately; assist senior inspectors with sign-offs.
• Assist with batch checks, coatings materials verification, and logkeeping; ensure traceability of materials and pot life data.
• Support safety practices, confined-space entry, respiratory protection, and work-at-height protocols.
