Job summary

StandardAero in Kansas City, KS is seeking a Thermal Spray Coating Technician to operate spray systems and apply coatings to parts. The role requires setting up processes, masking, and inspecting coated surfaces to ensure conformance to specifications.

You will work on 2nd Shift (4x10) or Weekend Shift (Fri-Sun 3x12) and contribute to production flow. Bring 1+ year experience in machine operation or robotics, the ability to lift 50 lb, and strong mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen/ Permanent Resident.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in machine operating and/or robotics.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted for part of the day.

Responsibilities

• Selects and prepares solutions or coatings per formulas and creates spray recipes.
• Plans and documents programs for robots as applicable.
• Operates blasting equipment to clean and prep surfaces.
• Prepares and masks parts prior to coating.
• Sets up and operates spray systems to apply coatings to parts.
• Inspects surfaces with micrometers, calipers and related devices before/after coating.
• Cleans and maintains spray equipment and blast cabinets.
• Participates in continuous improvement and cross-trains as needed.
• Adheres to safety requirements and reports unsafe conditions.

As a Thermal Spray Coating Technician, you’ll set-up and operate spray systems to apply Thermal Spray coatings to parts.

Available Positions

What You’ll Do

• Selects, prepares solutions or coatings according to formulas and specifications and creates spray recipes and sequences for spraying.
• Plans, develops, writes, revises, documents, tests, implements and controls programs for robots as applicable.
• Operates blasting equipment to clean and prepare the surface of materials and components.
• Prepares and masks parts with fixtures, rubber, tape, tafa, antibond or metal masks prior to coating.
• Sets up and operates various types of manual, semi-automatic and/or robotic spray systems to apply substances to parts.
• Removes masking, cleans overspray and washes parts.
• Inspects surfaces visually for defects and compliance with specifications using micrometers, calipers, elcometers, profilometers, or related devices prior to and after applying coating.
• Cleans and maintains spray/coating equipment, fixtures and blast cabinets.
• Participates in continuous improvement of cell processes.
• Cross trains in other complementary skills and seeks endorsements for those skills as needed to support production requirements.
• Moves between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed to support production requirements.
• Participates in the cross training of other technicians as needed to support production requirements.
• Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
• Carries out other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

• Must be an U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident
• Minimum 1 year of experience in machine operating and/or robotics
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average work day.
• Regularly required to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.

Desired Skills

• Experience with thermal spray coating
• Possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints.
