Job summary

Teledyne FLIR Defense is seeking a Coating Technician at our Freeport, PA facility. You will learn to clean optics, run vacuum coating chambers, and spectrally measure thin film coatings used in defense products. Training starts on 1st shift, then shifts may transition to 2nd or 3rd. Cross-training on multiple machines offers growth.

Required: 1–3 years in production, ability to lift 20 lbs, and familiarity with basic shop tools. Overtime may be required, and strict safety protocols apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • 1–3 years in a production environment.
  • Ability to visually inspect optical components for defects.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
  • Willing to work overtime as necessary.
  • Follow directions and coaching from others.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, clean, and prep optics before and after coating.
  • Prepare tooling and load product for runs.
  • Prepare vacuum chambers for coating runs.
  • Monitor coating processes and record run parameters.
  • Troubleshoot equipment or process issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Make spectral measurements as necessary.
  • Assist in product recovery processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform general housekeeping in a clean room environment.
  • Follow safety and equipment maintenance procedures.

The Teledyne FLIR manufacturing facility in Freeport, PA makes optical components that go into thermal imaging cameras, gimbals, scopes, and other military driven products. We are looking to hire a Coating Technician to join our team, initially working 1st shift hours during training and then 2nd or 3rd shift hours after training. This position will learn the necessary skills to clean optics and run various vacuum coating chambers that are used to apply and spectrally measure the thin film coatings used in Teledyne FLIR products. There will be an opportunity to get cross trained on various/multiple machines.

Job Duties
  • Handle, clean, and prep optics before and after coating process.
  • Prepare tooling and load product for runs.
  • Prepare vacuum chambers for coating runs.
  • Monitor coating processes and record necessary run parameters.
  • Troubleshoot equipment or process issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Make spectral measurements, as necessary.
  • Assist in product recovery processes.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform general housekeeping requirements of a clean room environment.
  • Follows appropriate safety and equipment maintenance procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Minimum 1-3 years prior experience in a production environment
  • Ability to visually inspect optical components for microscopic defects.
  • Ability to handle delicate parts and assist with the cleaning and packing of parts and material.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to use basic shop tools.
  • Ability to grip, grasp, and work with hands on product repetitively.
  • Willing to work overtime as necessary
  • Ability to follow direction and coaching from others.
  • Minimal supervision required.
