The purpose of the Coater Operator is to ensure proper production and machine operation through supervision of coating department personnel, product quality assurance in accordance with client specifications, and ensuring line repairs and troubleshooting activities are performed properly and efficiently.

The purpose of the Coater Operator is to ensure proper production and machine operation through supervision of coating department personnel, product quality assurance in accordance with client specifications, and ensuring line repairs and troubleshooting activities are performed properly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
The Coater Operator is responsible for the overall performance of the assigned line within the Coating Department of Mactac facility. Primary daily activities associated strictly with the Coater Operator include receiving and completing an initial review of client specifications; supervision of all coating employees within the assigned line to ensure efficient operation, including daily work schedules and assignments, documentation, delivery of proper material, etc.; and ensuring necessary repairs or troubleshooting occurs in a timely and efficient manner. Tasks for the Coater Operations will vary depending on the assigned Line. The Coater Operator may assist with additional job classifications within the Coating Department (Coater Assistant and Coater Helper), depending on production rates, staffing and necessity of line repairs (see associated job descriptions for more details). Physical capabilities for each task are included in this job description.
Primary Task – Line Operation And Oversight
The employee is required to lift/move sleeves on an occasional basis. The sleeves are carried a maximum of 3 feet, and are picked up at waist to shoulder height and placed down at waist height. Sleeves weigh 50 to 60 pounds each. This activity is performed with assistance (two-man lift). The Coater Operator is required to stand/walk on a continuous basis while performing general required activities (primarily on concrete surfaces). The Coater Operator is not required to stand/balance on any atypical or uneven surfaces. The employee is required to sit on an Occasional basis while completing paperwork. The Coater Operator is required to Bend, Twist, Crawl, Squat, and/or Kneel on an occasional basis, primarily while cleaning rollers or line repair during "web breaks". The Coater Operator primarily works while reaching between waist and shoulder height (frequent basis). Additional work may require the employee to work from knee to waist height (occasional); from floor to knee height (occasional); and above shoulder height (occasional) during web breaks. The Coater Operator is required to work while bending the neck up on an occasional basis while performing quality assurance checks and line inspections. This may occur for less than 30 minutes at a time. Additionally, the employee will work while bending the neck down (up to 30 minutes) during computer data entry on an occasional basis. The Coater Operator may be required to climb stairs on the line machine (occasional basis) as a part of typical job activities. The Coater Operator does not climb ladders as a part of general job activities. The Coater Operator is required to perform handling, fingering and operating controls with hands on a frequent basis while performing general machine operations.
Secondary Tasks: Assisting Coater Assistant and/or Coater Helper
The Coater Operator may assist Coater Helper move metal line shafts (3-inch to 9-inch diameter) within 5-feet. Additionally, the Coater Operator may be required to lift/move cores within 5-feet to load on the 505/506/509 Line. Cores may weigh up to 40 pounds and may be located anywhere from knee to shoulder height on the racks. The cores must first be pulled out from storage racks. This may occur on an occasional basis. The Coater Operator may assist the Assistant or Helper push rolls. The rolls weigh anywhere from 3000 to 5000 pounds. The rolls are pushed on a dolly-track located on the ground adjacent to each Line. While on the track, the roll requires up to 90 pounds of force to initiate movement. After movement, the rolls require up to 20 pounds of force to continue moving. The Coater Operator may be required to assist the Assistant or Helper to pull cores out of racks on an occasional basis. Cores may weigh up to 40 pounds and may be located anywhere from knee to shoulder height on the racks. While performing duties as an Assistant or Helper, the employee will primarily work while reaching between waist and shoulder height (frequent basis) Additional work may require the employee to work from knee to waist height (occasional); from floor to knee height (occasional); and above shoulder height (occasional). As an Assistant or Helper, the employee may be required to climb stairs on the individual line machine on an occasional basis and climb a ladder on the 505/506/509 Line to change filters. As an Assistant or Helper, the employee will perform handling, fingering and operating controls with hands on a frequent basis for general machine operations and general tasks. The employee may be required to operate a fork truck to retrieve rolls.
