Job summary

Pregis is hiring for a night shift coater operator in Illinois. The role reports to the shift supervisor and operates on a 2-2-3 schedule (5 AM–5 PM). You will review prior shift work, maintain film and adhesive specifications, perform changeovers, and ensure safety and quality in a fast-paced packaging environment.

The position requires reading a tape measure, following instructions, and collaborating with team members while maintaining accurate paperwork and a clean, safe workspace.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Manufacturing or Quality environment preferred.
• Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; lift 50 pounds; endure elevated temperatures.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quality focus.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent in English & Mathematics.
• Ability to operate auxiliary equipment listed (Forklift, Cranes, Floor Jacks, Saws, Knives).

Responsibilities

• Review preceding shift operations, problems, status, orders and instructions with the prior shift.
• Review coating schedule and ensure accurate footage is run for all products.
• Ensure correct film, adhesive and run conditions; check corona treatment.
• Visually inspect material for film and coating defects and report defects.
• Prepare for changeovers in advance to minimize downtime.
• Complete all paperwork and maintain safe work environment.

Classification: Full-Time-Hourly

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Shifts: Nights-5AM-5PM based on a 2-2-3 schedule (overtime as needed based on business needs)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Abide by all existing safety and work rules.
• Review preceding shift operations, problems, status, orders, special instructions, etc.... with preceding coater helper.
• Review coating schedule and ensure accurate footage is run for all products.
• Ensure correct film, adhesive, run conditions, web path, etc.
• Check solids of adhesive being used at beginning of shift and on each additional batch prior to using, adjust if necessary.
• Check film for corona treatment before mounting to determine correct loading of film.
• Visually inspect material for film and/or coating defects.
• Report all defects to supervisor.
• Check coating weights as required.
• Make pre-mix if necessary.
• Accurately measure and/or add catalyst.
• Prepare for changeovers in advance to minimize downtime.
• Complete all paperwork as required.
• Review shift operations, problems, status, orders, special instructions, etc. with oncoming operator.
• Maintain equipment as necessary, report any damage or mechanical issues to supervisor.
• Empty trash containers at the end of shift.
• Inform supervisor of any inability to complete the assigned order.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment/area.
• Assist other plant employees as necessary.
• Follow all “coater operator” work instructions.
• Perform any and all activities as required or requested by management.

Required Education, Experience And Qualifications

• Familiarity with Manufacturing or Quality environment preferred.
• Working Conditions: Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift 50 pounds and endure elevated temperature levels.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on quality.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to understand detailed written and/or oral instructions including basic mathematical skills.
• Education: High School Diploma or credentialed equivalent in English & Mathematics.
• Additional auxiliary equipment: Possess or learn the ability to operate Forklift, Cranes, Floor Jacks, Saws, Knives (other hand tools).
