The State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this exempt position to the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, Office of Planning and Sustainable Development.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide planning and policy analysis services to carry out the Coastal Zone Management Program. This position will assist in implementing the approved Section 309 Strategy (2021-2025) Project and assist in developing the proposed Section 309 Strategy (FY26-30). This position will also provide administrative and research support for the Marine and Coastal Zone Advocacy Council (MACZAC) meetings.

A. Knowledge:

General research sources and sources of socio-economic, land use and environmental information; research methods; report-writing; government organization, programs, and functions; working knowledge of the state and county planning and land use regulatory systems; general knowledge of the state procurement process and federal grant rules and regulations.

B. Skills/Abilities:

Plan, organize, and conduct complex planning projects; establish and maintain effective relationships with personnel of public agencies and citizen groups; make effective presentations before groups; speak and write effectively; read and comprehend a broad range of subjects; collect, compile, correlate and analyze facts and draw sound conclusions from them; learn and apply public planning methods and techniques and functions of public planning; collect, compile, and analyze budgetary information.

C. Education:

Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree program. A master’s or graduate degree is preferred but not required.

D. Experience:

Three and one-half (3 ½) years of specialized experience is required. Specialized experience means progressively responsible professional experience that aligns with the ‘Major Duties & Responsibilities’ described above. A master’s degree in urban or regional planning or a closely related planning major from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two and one-half years of the required specialized experience.

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature.
