Job summary

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock is seeking a Beach Security Officer for the West Islip, NY area to help protect the dredging operation and public safety. The role offers 12-hour shifts, with day or night options, on a temporary project basis.

The officer will monitor access, escort heavy equipment as needed, and perform shorepipe security checks. Candidates must be able to walk on sand, have good communication and interpersonal skills, and possess a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must be capable of walking on uneven surfaces (e.g., beach sand).
• Must have good communications skills; both verbal & written.
• Solid interpersonal skills to interact with the public.
• Candidates will need their own steel toed boots; GLDD will provide remaining PPE.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
• Valid State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a sentry post at the entrance to the construction area to keep unauthorized persons from entering the active construction zone.
• Perform escort duties for bulldozer or wheel loader when equipment is operated outside the designated construction area and members of the public are present.
• Perform pipe security check by walking or driving the shorepipe to identify safety concerns for the public.
• Spend 2-3 days watching safety training videos prudent to job duties.
• May be assigned to other duties.
