Job summary

Estuario is seeking a Coastal Resilience Youth Coordinator in San Juan, PR to engage youth in workshops and coastal resilience education. The role involves presenting curriculum to schools, coordinating activities with educators, and maintaining participant databases to support citizen science certification.

The coordinator will work closely with the Coastal Resilience team and other coordinators to schedule workshops, track progress, and document interactions with schools and students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, behavioral science, public administration, and/or relevant field preferred, plus two years related experience.
• Experience communicating with students, parents and school personnel to promote certification is preferred.
• Experience in scheduling and coordinating events is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategy to engage youth in Citizen Science Certification Coastal Resilience module, including teachers and schools.
• Support Education and Citizen Science Manager by improving the certification process for youth participants.

The San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership (Estuario) is seeking qualified applicants for a Coastal Resilience Youth Coordinator.

The Corporation for the Conservation of the San Juan Bay Estuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates the San Juan Bay Estuary Partnership, or Estuario. Established in 1994, we are the only tropical and non-continental location within the National Estuary Program (NEP) under Section 320 of the Clean Water Act. The Estuario operates as a partnership to restore and conserve the waters and associated ecosystems of the San Juan Bay Estuary and its watershed as a sustainable axis of social and economic development. The partnership is a trusted regional science-based organization, supported by engaged stakeholders. Estuario’s work is guided by a master restoration plan known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) for the San Juan Bay Estuary.

This position will be responsible for coordinating youth participation in workshops by visiting schools and presenting the curriculum and opportunities for participation. They will work closely with stakeholders and partners, including partners and educators/teachers to increase access and opportunities for youth to develop technical and scientific skills under the Citizen Science Certification, particularly in coastal resilience. They will also be responsible for the documentation of interactions with schools and students, and support the database of youth participants and certified citizen scientists. They will coordinate all activities, workshops, and field experiences under this activity in coordination with the Estuario Project Coordinator Coastal Resilience Coordinator, and Green Infrastructure Coordinator.

This position requires great administrative, organizational, and multi-tasking skills to maintain all project documentation, work plan analysis, recruitment inventories, listing certification completion, and meeting and training scheduling.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement strategy, updating as needed, to engage youth and increase their participation in Citizen Science Certification Coastal Resilience module, including specific teachers, schools, programs, youth groups, etc, in order to increase the number of youth that complete certification.
• Support Education and Citizen Science Manager by identifying ways to consistently improve the process of Citizen Science Certification for youth participants.
• Ensure timely follow-up with teachers, school representatives, parents, and youth, etc to coordinate workshops, field trips, and other related activities.
• Maintain and manage all project documentation and databases (phone calls, meetings, recruitment lists, list of students certified as citizen scientists, list of students and their green/community hours, scheduled events with students and parents, coordination with other coordinators, etc).
• Provide documentation to students and internally for the completion of green/community hours, following each school’s requirements.
• Manage database of youth participants in the Citizen Science Certification in Coastal Resilience to ensure that it is integrated in the overall database of Citizen Science Certification participants.
• Provide proof of certification as Citizen Scientists in Coastal Resilience to youth once completed by participant.
• Participate in coastal resilience activities to support the Coastal Resilience team (includes staff and contractors related to the project).
• Organizes and schedules workshops and field experiences in coordination with the Coastal Resilience team as defined above.
• Support the Coastal Resilience team with activities related to Citizen Science Certification participants (youth and adults) as needed.
• Coordinates internal and external resources, ensuring projects remain within defined scope and timeline with emphasis on overall project progress.

Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Worker, behavioral science, public administration, and/or relevant field preferred, plus two years of directly-related experience working with young people. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted, as long as it directly relates to the essential duties and responsibilities.
• Candidates with experience communicating with students, parents and school administrative personnel to promote the Professional Certification on Coastal Resilience will be preferred
• Candidates with experience in scheduling and coordinating events will also be preferred.
