Job summary

CSU Sonoma State University seeks a Research Technician to support Hughes’ Lab research in coastal ecosystems in northern California, under the Director of Operations and the PI. You will assist with grant-funded projects, field sampling, data management, and analysis.

The ideal candidate has strong writing and quantitative skills, experience with statistics, and familiarity with Excel, R, and Google Suite; a California Driver's License, AAUS certification, and boat operator credentials may be

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with statistics course; related coursework or experience may substitute.
  • One year of experience in technical research or statistics-related work, or one year of graduate study in relevant fields.
  • MS in biology, environmental science, oceanography, conservation or similar preferred.
  • Strong writing and analytical/quantitative skills highly preferred.
  • Experience with field work related to marine ecosystems preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite and data analysis platforms including Excel, R, RStudio, Github, and PeopleSoft preferred.
  • May require pre-placement exam to confirm diving ability.
  • Must possess/obtain valid CA Driver's License, CA Boater Card, and AAUS certification as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support research activities in the Hughes’ Lab for grant-funded projects.
  • Monitor and restore coastal ecosystems in northern California.
  • Assist with data management and analysis.
