Job summary

The Town of Longboat Key is seeking a Full-Time Permit Technician 1 in the Planning, Zoning & Building Department. A pre-employment physical is required for most applicants.

This role focuses on processing building permits and change orders, maintaining submittals, and assisting the public with submittal requirements. Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma, clerical experience in permitting or related fields, and knowledge of applicable ordinances.

Qualifications

• Preferred: experience in permitting or clerical roles or in construction, engineering, or related fields.
• Required: high school diploma or equivalent with typing/word processing skills.
• A comparable amount of training and experience may substitute the minimum qualifications.
• ICC Certified Permit Technician certification within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Process permit applications and change orders for review by Building and Zoning Divisions.
• Enter data into town permitting systems and maintain logs for plan reviews.
• Inform applicants of requirements and assist with documentation.
• Prepare permit documentation for issuance and issue permits and change orders.
• Respond to inquiries about procedures and timelines, providing forms as needed.
• Maintain notary duties and assist staff with clerical tasks.
• Attend to receptionist duties and general office responsibilities.
• Adhere to disaster plan and regular work schedule.
