Job summary

NRG Energy, Inc. seeks a Coal Plant Operator to join our Pekin, IL team. Under general supervision, you will operate and maintain coal handling equipment and supporting systems to ensure safe, reliable plant performance.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and preferably 3 years of experience in power plant operations and coal handling. We offer competitive pay and a safety-focused work environment with opportunities for growth and development.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent education.
• Three years of experience in power plant operation preferred.
• Knowledge of safety requirements and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, maintain, and lubricate coal handling equipment such as conveyors, trippers, crushers, feeders, breakers, screens, stackers, and loaders.
• Shift barges and railroad cars; inventory railroad cars and act as a weigh master.
• Read and implement information from manufacturers’ manuals, P&IDs, and procedures.
• Document system operation and input data into work history files.
• Maintain clean work area and perform routine environmental logs and testing.
• Assist in planning, parts identification, and ordering of equipment; conduct shift change briefings.
