Job summary

REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics

Supervisor of Athletics

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Has a thorough knowledge of all policies approved by the Passaic Board of Education and is responsible for its implementation.
• Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently.
• Understand the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
• Attend all meetings as required.
• Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school athletic program.
• Assist the Division of Athletics in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournaments and special events.
• Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices and adhere to scheduled facility times. Coordinate program with maintenance and school employees.
• Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility and codes of conduct.
• Provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of equipment and storage facilities.
• Assist in the administration of seasonal sports physicals as needed.
• Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete.
• Give constant attention to a student-athlete's grades and conduct.
• Provide assistance, guidance, supervision, and safeguards for each participant at all practices, games and while traveling.
• Complete paperwork on all athletic injuries on proper forms and submit to school athletic trainer within 24 hours.
• Direct and supervise student managers, assistants and statisticians.
• Determine discipline, delineate procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contact parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
• Responsible for all equipment and collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arrange for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submit annual inventory and athlete obligations to the Director of Athletics.
• Monitor equipment rooms and coaches’ offices, authorize who may enter, issue or requisition equipment.
• Permit athletes to be in only authorized areas of the building, facility, and field at appropriate times.
• Secure all doors, alarms, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
• Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
• Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
• Make school announcements when appropriate.
• Instruct team members as to changes in the rules and teaches the fundamentals of the sport.
• Carry out scouting assignments.
• Prepare and remain before and after games and practices to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
• Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
• Improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the Division of Athletics.
• Attend contests, when possible, of other teams in the program.
• Perform such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be assigned or requested by the Superintendent, Director of Athletics, Supervisor of Athletics, or designee and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Contract terms and stipend as determined by collective bargaining agreement.
• Conditions established by laws and codes of New Jersey; and policies, rules, and regulations established by the Passaic Board of Education.
• Non-Tenurable.
