Head Coach – Softball

Mariner High School, Mukilteo School District – Everett, Washington

Summary

The Head Coach will oversee the development of student athletes for the 2026‑27 spring softball season, coaching afterschool and on weekends. The role requires coaching and playing experience; head coaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Provide age‑appropriate training, instruction, and coaching to develop student skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and self‑esteem.
  • Teach rules, safety, and enhance students’ personal, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Promote participation in all sports and the value of being a multi‑sport athlete.
  • Supervise student behavior, correct misconduct, and maintain discipline consistent with WIAA regulations and district policies.
  • Assist in scheduling sport‑related events, coaching meetings, practices, games, and related logistics.
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of student athletes, providing first aid or referring as appropriate.
  • Direct and supervise assistants and volunteers.
  • Maintain professional interactions with students, staff, parents, and the public.
  • Process, manage, and account for supply orders, distribution, and inventory.
  • Maintain records of student eligibility, equipment inventory, fiscal resources, and sport records.
  • Follow fiscal procedures, policies, and conduct fundraising activities as needed.
  • Implement and comply with WIAA regulations and district policies.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours.
  • Stay current with sport techniques, coaching certification, and training requirements.
  • Attend meetings, clinics, and workshops.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Ability to develop and instruct student athletes and apply effective game strategy.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal training in softball per WIAA requirements, including current CPR/first aid card.
  • College degree preferred.
Experience
  • Experience with student cultural and economic diversity (preferred).
  • Three years of successful head or varsity coaching at the high school, college, or professional level (preferred).
Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally – 1% to 33% involvement in activities such as standing, walking, crouching, stooping, twisting knees and neck, climbing, and light lifting.
  • Frequently – 34% to 65% involvement in similar activities with increased frequency.
  • Continually – 66% to 100% involvement in all listed activities.
  • Includes tasks such as talking, hearing, vision, depth perception, field of vision, and working both outdoors and indoors.
Salary and Position Type

Seasonal salary: $4,886 to $6,588. Position type: Extra‑Curricular.
