Job summary

Palomar Health Medical Group is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) to support ophthalmology services in our Poway offices. The role involves facilitating patient flow, documenting patient information, and assisting with exams to ensure efficient clinic operation.

The COA will perform eye tests, help with medications and minor procedures, maintain equipment, and provide patient education in accordance with compliance guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Current Ophthalmic Assistant Certification and CPR/BLS certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing: visual acuity, color vision, lensometry, keratometry, pupil function, tonometry, automated perimetry, EOMs, visual field testing.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic and oral medications as directed by physician.
  • Assist with minor surgery procedures and laser treatments in the office.
  • Inventory and maintain surgical instruments per OSHA standards.
  • Open/close exam lanes; ensure equipment cleanliness and proper charging/covering of devices.
  • Educate patients on medication administration and pre-/post-operative instructions.
  • Complete prescription refills with full documentation in patient charts.
