Job summary

AES Ohio is offering an engineering co-op internship for Fall 2027 on the Substation Engineering team. The intern will gain practical experience in substation design, working with staff engineers on 12kV–345kV projects.

Eligible students are pursuing a four-year degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering with Sophomore or higher standing and strong attention to detail. CAD and MS Office proficiency is preferred. AES is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

An engineering co- op opportunity for the Fall of 2027 is available on the AES Ohio Substation Engineering team.

This position will provide the intern with practical engineering experience as it relates to the design of electrical substations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work alongside staff engineers to help design parts of 12kV through 345kV substations, including physical layouts, one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist in producing detailed engineering design packages in accordance with AES Ohio and relevant industry standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.).
  • Complete additional assignments as determined by their supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • A student pursuing a four-year degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
  • An academic standing of Sophomore or higher is preferred.
  • Additional consideration will be given to candidates with a strong academic background, exceptional attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • A proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is preferred.
