Job description

At Vancer, we're committed to developing the next generation of skilled diesel technicians.

For more than 20 years, our Diesel Technician CO-OP Sponsorship Program has helped students turn their passion for diesel technology into rewarding careers. Through paid tuition assistance, hands‑on experience, professional mentorship, and meaningful work, you'll graduate with the skills and confidence to succeed in the heavy equipment and railroad industries.

Vancer designs and manufactures custom maintenance‑of‑way (MOW) equipment for rail clients across North America. Every machine we build is engineered to solve real customer challenges, and our employees are at the center of that mission.

What You'll Receive

As a Vancer CO‑OP Student, you'll gain much more than classroom experience.

Our sponsorship program includes:

  • Paid tuition for an approved Diesel Technology program
  • Books, required fees, and tools provided
  • Competitive hourly pay while working in our shop
  • Hands‑on experience building, maintaining, and servicing specialized railroad equipment
  • Mentorship from experienced technicians
  • Career opportunities with Vancer upon graduation
What you'll Do

While attending school, you'll combine classroom instruction with hands‑on experience in Vancer's manufacturing and service environment.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work alongside experienced technicians inspecting, diagnosing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing custom railroad equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Learn industry‑leading diagnostic and repair techniques.
  • Participate in technical training and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop safe work habits while following company policies and procedures.
  • Represent Vancer professionally at work, school, and within your community.
  • Build the technical skills needed for a successful career in the diesel and heavy equipment industry.
What We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have earned your high school diploma (or will graduate prior to program start).
  • Plan to enroll, or are currently enrolled, in a Vancer‑approved Diesel Technology program.
  • Have strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through school, hobbies, work experience, or personal projects.
  • Enjoy solving mechanical problems and working with your hands.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Have a strong attendance record and positive attitude.
  • Intend to pursue a long‑term career with Vancer after graduation.
About Vancer

Students selected for the sponsorship program are expected to:

  • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward graduation within approximately 24 months.
  • Successfully complete both classroom and workplace learning requirements.
  • Demonstrate Vancer's values in school, at work, and in the community.
Why Choose Vancer

At Vancer, you'll work on equipment unlike anything found in a traditional repair shop.

From day one, you'll gain hands‑on experience with custom‑built maintenance‑of‑way equipment while learning directly from experienced technicians who are passionate about developing the next generation of skilled professionals.

Many of our technicians began their careers through this sponsorship program and continue to grow their careers with us today.

Eligible employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:
