Job summary

MSA Safety in Cranberry Township, PA is seeking a co-op Electrical Engineering Technology student to gain hands-on PCB design experience. You will work on schematic capture, PCB layout, and prototype development under supervision.

You will contribute to Gerber generation, design validation, and documentation of tests, with exposure to EMC considerations and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Active enrollment in an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or related program.
• At least one sophomore year completed before starting the co-op.

Responsibilities

• Perform schematic capture and netlist generation using Altium.
• Develop PCB layout for multi-layer and rigid-flex designs.
• Create Gerber files and coordinate with fabrication houses.
• Drive PCB development for prototypes and proofs-of-concept.
• Document electrical and system tests and validation activities.

Responsibilities

• Completes schematic capture and net list generation of electrical designs using the Altium Design tool
• Develops printed circuit board (PCB) layout of complex multi-layer and rigid flex circuit board designs
• Completes PCB Gerber file generation, ordering, and design file coordination with fabrication house
• Drives PCB development for prototype/proof-of-concept for electrical designs
• Completes surface mount component rework of printed circuit boards and component replacement as needed
• Runs and documents electrical and system tests

Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
• Knowledge of digital/analog circuit design and communication protocols such as SPI, UART, I2C
• Solid interpersonal skills in design collaboration with the electrical engineering team
• Creative Problem Solving Skills
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Tools
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Knowledge of schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer or other similar software
• Knowledge of the PCB/PCBA manufacturing process
• Knowledge of electrical design implementation to meet EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) standards

Education and Experience Required:

• Must be pursuing an Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics or other relevant Engineering discipline, from an ABET-accredited program, and have completed at least one semester of Sophomore year before beginning this co-op rotation.
