Job summary

MSA Safety Inc. in Cranberry Township, PA is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering co-op to contribute to New Product Development projects. You will design electrical schematics, create PCB layouts, and help validate and test boards to bring new products to life.

You will work closely with the electrical engineering team, apply creative problem solving, and gain exposure to PCB fabrication, EMC considerations, and the overall design cycle from concept to prototype.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• ABET-accredited program required.
• Have completed at least one sophomore year semester before starting this co-op rotation.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to electrical team for one or more New Product Development (NPD) projects
• Designs electrical circuit schematics for test boards, prototypes, and new product designs
• Independently and creatively develops ideas and solutions to electrical and system design problems
• Validates, tests, and debugs circuit boards
• Develops printed circuit board (PCB) layout of complex multi-layer circuit board designs
• Completes PCB Gerber file generation, ordering, and design file coordination with fabrication house
• Completes surface mount component rework of printed circuit boards and component replacement as needed
• Runs and documents electrical and system tests

Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
• Knowledge of digital/analog circuit design and communication protocols such as SPI, UART, I2C
• Solid interpersonal skills in design collaboration with the electrical engineering team
• Creative Problem Solving Skills
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Tools
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred

• Knowledge of schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer or other similar software
• Knowledge of the PCB/PCBA manufacturing process
• Knowledge of electrical design implementation to meet EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) standards

Education and Experience Required

• Must be pursuing an Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or other relevant Engineering discipline, from an ABET-accredited program, and have completed at least one semester of Sophomore year before beginning this co-op rotation.
