Job description

Overview

Co‑Occurring Disorder Counselor – independent contractor or W‑2 position. This role provides outpatient substance use and mental health counseling to clients in community‑based group homes, agency offices, and via telehealth.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual, family, and group counseling sessions focused on co‑occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations and develop comprehensive treatment plans within the required time frames.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record system (ICANotes) and comply with CARF, Medicaid, and COMAR standards.
  • Facilitate make‑up sessions and coordinate with program staff to meet client care needs.
  • Apply trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and evidence‑based practices (e.g., CBT, DBT, MI).
  • Participate in fidelity reviews, clinical audits, supervision, and continuing education to sustain licensure and program integrity.
  • Coordinate with external providers (PCPs, housing, probation, substance use programs) for case management and crisis intervention.
Qualifications & Licensing
  • Valid Maryland licensure: LCADC, LGADC, CAC‑AD, CSCAD, ADT, LCPC, LGPC, LCSW‑C, LCSW, LMSW, LBSW, LCMFT, LGMF, Psychologist, Registered Psychology Associate, CRNP‑PMH, APRN‑PMH, CNS‑PMH, or student intern in one of these disciplines.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience with dual‑diagnosis or high‑acuity populations.
  • Proficiency in Medicaid documentation, CARF standards, and trauma‑informed care.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must pass background and reference checks.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Independent Contractor: Fee‑for‑service per session, per group, or per client contact; invoicing weekly.
  • W‑2 Employee: Annual salary range $50,000 – $167,560; paid on a fee‑for‑service basis.
  • W‑2 Benefits: Paid time off; health, dental, and vision insurance reimbursement; professional development support; retirement savings plan; supplemental disability insurance.
  • Travel up to 10% of time between community offices and agency sites.
Work Schedule & Location
  • Hours: 4–5 eight‑hour days per week, preferably Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Clients located mainly in community‑based group homes; sessions may be held at 1638 Ruxton Avenue or 3310 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, or via telehealth when appropriate.
