Job summary

WH Wheeling Hospital Inc. is seeking a Sterile Instrument Tech to perform decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments across the surgery center, hospital and physician offices, while following infection control practices.

You will operate decontamination equipment, inspect equipment, track sterile supplies, and support timely instrument turnover. Requires high school diploma; certification in sterile processing preferred; prior sterile processing

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in sterile processing preferred.
  • Previous sterile processing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves contaminated instruments and delivers sterile instruments where needed.
  • Removes debris by manual cleaning of instruments.
  • Operates and maintains decontamination equipment.
  • Inspects instruments and equipment to ensure patient safety.
  • Tests and reports problems with equipment.
  • Separates and tracks items that have been cleaned and sterilized.
  • Ensures removal of waste from transfer carts.
  • Organizes, stores, and maintains records of sterile supplies.
  • Checks expiration dates on supplies.
  • Maintains a clean work area and follows infection control standards.
  • Operates mechanical machinery in central sterile.
  • Follows policies and procedures in completing work assignments.
  • PPE usage and proper delinting of towels and sheets.
