Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools seeks a Child Nutrition Program Assistant to support meal service and daily cafeteria operations in an elementary/high school setting. Responsibilities

• Fill in for manager if necessary.
• Ability to use the POS terminal to check out students.
• Willingness and ability to learn basic computer skills.
• Assist in the preparation of food portions and cafeteria counter.
• Serve students and staff from cafeteria counter.
• Assist in the cleaning of counters, tables, and furnishings in the dining area.
• Assure that all students are served equally the required portions.
• Prepare food according to the approved menu using standardized recipes.
• Provide a friendly atmosphere for students, faculty, and guests.
• Use food and supplies for school purposes and functions.
• Show politeness and good manners in dealing with others.
• Assist with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment and the washing and sanitizing of all dishes, silverware and utensils.
• Ability to read and follow written and oral directions, and do simple mathematics.
• Ability to think logically and systematically, learn technical skills of quantity food production, use and care of equipment.
• Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.
• Ability to prepare food according to recipes using methods
• Ability to read and interpret recipes and instructions.
• Maintain cooler, freezer, and kitchen area and storage areas in an orderly and sanitary condition.
• Ability to receive deliveries and check against purchase orders, using established procedure.
• Ability to use equipment times and controls.
• Ability to use ingredient-scaling equipment.
• Capable of working for six (6) hours or longer in a cold or hot and humid kitchen environment.
• Capable of using floor-cleaning equipment to sweep, mop and/or scrub as needed.
• Ability to be a safe food handler, free of diseases, which may be transmitted by food.
• Ability to follow and to pass required sanitation standards and training.
• Ability to use trash receptacle washer.
• Ability to read chemical product sheets and follow required safety procedures while using and cleaning food preparation equipment.
• Ability to transfer extremely hot food pans from food preparation equipment to serving area.
• Ability to use food preparation equipment that dices, mixes, slices, cuts, chops, fries, bakes, steams, braises, broils, boils and purees using required manufacture'’ safety recommendations.
• Ability to disassemble, clean and reassemble food preparation and cleaning equipment.
• Perform related duties as required including duties at special meal functions.

Physical Requirements:

1. Capable of standing for long periods of time on quarry floors during food preparation using work surfaces that are 48” above the floor.
2. Ability to empty 50-gallon trash receptacle or garbage bag into an eight-yard dumpster
3. Ability to use six-foot stepladder for weekly cleaning of kitchen ventilation system.
4. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
5. Ability to bend, stoop and stretch.
