Job description

Your day, building precision

You arrive to a clean, organized workstation and open the latest program specs and blueprints. You determine the sequence of operations, the final dimensions required, and the numerical control path. You transfer programs from the server to the CNC module over the network, insert the control instructions into the control unit, and prepare your setup.

With care, you mount and align tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. You check coolant and lubrication flow, then start the equipment and monitor the operation—listening for tool wear or vibration and tuning speeds or actions with gauges and hand tools to match product specifications. When needed, you stop the machine to remove finished parts or to change tooling, setups, or workpiece placement according to the machining sequence.

Each part is verified: you measure critical dimensions with precision instruments, templates, and fixtures; examine surfaces for defects such as chips or marring; and sort any nonconforming pieces by flaw type. You record operational data, keep accurate production and quality logs, and maintain the equipment and supplies that keep the cell running at its best. When cutting tools dull, you remove and replace them to maintain consistency. Throughout the shift, you set up and operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more functions on metal workpieces.

Other responsibilities may be assigned as production needs evolve.
