Job summary

Crane Pumps & Systems in Piqua, Ohio is seeking a second-shift CNC Machinist to set up and operate lathes and milling centers for short-run, high-mix jobs. You will review prints, select tooling, and dial in feeds and speeds to produce in-tolerance parts that meet tight tolerances.

You will switch to a CNC lathe mid-shift, adjust offsets, and make quick programming edits in collaboration with Engineering. Safety, quality, and continuous improvement are emphasized throughout.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; a technical certificate is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and run CNC lathes and machining centers across short-run, varied work.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders with confidence.
• Select tooling and establish feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters.
• Secure parts using chucks, collets, fixtures, and other holding solutions.
• Perform set changes, fixture swaps, and in-process dimensional adjustments.
• Edit/update CNC programs in coordination with Engineering and Programming.
• Verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments and calibrated gauges.
• Deburr and finish components to specification.
• Advance safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Pitch in on additional tasks as needed.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm-10:00 pm

Shift Premium: Additional $3.00/hour

Overtime available based on business needs.

A day in this role

You clock in for second shift and head straight to your station. Today's lineup is classic low-volume, high-mix: a short run of tight-tolerance impeller hubs followed by a one-off housing prototype. You review prints, choose the right tools, dial in feeds and speeds, and set workholding for the first operation on the mill. Mid-shift, you swap to a CNC lathe, tweak offsets, and make a quick program edit in collaboration with Engineering. Throughout it all, you're measuring, deburring, and keeping quality front and center - because these parts end up in pumping systems that keep municipal, commercial, and industrial sites running.

Qualifications Required

• At least 6 months of machining experience, technical training, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
• Hands-on CNC setup and troubleshooting ability.
• Fluency in reading blueprints and manufacturing documentation.
• Skilled with precision measuring tools and gauges.
• Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
• High school diploma or GED.

Preferred

• Associate degree or technical certificate in Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or similar.
• Experience in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
