Job summary

Barnes Aerospace East Hartford is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to set up and operate CNC machines machining aerospace forgings. You will read drawings, interpret setup sheets, and ensure parts meet tight dimensional tolerances using micrometers and gauges.

The role requires working with multiple machines, applying coolant, and maintaining strict quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC machinery on aerospace-grade parts.
• Ability to read drawings and interpret tooling/setup sheets.
• Read and interpret dimensional drawings, tool setup sheets and manufacturing instructions.
• Operate and load/unload CNC machines with proper coolant and tooling changes.
• Use precision measuring devices to verify dimensions.
• Follow quality and safety standards; work independently when needed.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines to machine forgings.
• Read and interpret drawings and setup sheets for correct operations.
• Load and unload pieces manually or with hoist; apply coolant and replace worn tools.
• Use micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges to verify machined dimensions.

Your Expertise:

• 3+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC Machinery, working on parts 12 inches or over in diameter preferably in an aerospace environment.
• Ability to use hand tools, measuring instruments, and gauges to ensure proper setups and machining operations
• Ability to operate multiple machines at the same time

• Work independently with/without minimal direction of senior personnel in functional area
• Follows established quality and safety standards.
• Receive work instructions, operation sheets, setup sheets, 1st piece and in-process check sheets from department supervision indicating such information as part and operation number to be performed
• Read and interpret dimensional drawings, tool setup sheets and manufacturing instructions in performing required machining operations.
• Operate various types of computer numeric controlled production machines in the machining of forgings made from various types of metal such as stainless steel, aluminum, chrome-nickel, Inconel, titanium, etc.; Machine forgings to close tolerance, e.g. +/- .001; operate multiple machines at the same time.
• Perform basic machine setup with/without minimal direction from senior personnel in functional area
• Load and unload pieces manually or with hoist; Apply coolant lubricant and change worn or damaged tools as required
• Use precision or standard measuring devices such as inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier scales, fixed frame gauges or special gauges, profilometers, etc. to check machined dimensions and surface finishes conforming to customer prints and/or specifications
• Exercise care in handling of material before and after the machining operation
• Other duties as assigned
