CNC Tooling Crib SpecialistCompany: ACME Industries PrattLocation: Elk Grove Village, ILSchedule: Second shift, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PMA day on second shiftThree o’clock hits and the floor is already humming. You review the evening’s schedule, pull up the right setup sheets, and start presetting assemblies so every job has the tools it needs before a machinist even thinks to ask. At 8:30 PM a mill operator radios for a replacement insert—you’ve got it labeled, verified, and in their hands in moments, keeping that spindle cutting. By 11:00 PM, the crib is clean, organized, and every fast-moving consumable is counted and queued for replenishment. That’s how production stays on pace at ACME—and you’re at the center of it.Role impactThis is a production-support position with direct influence on throughput and uptime. Your mission is simple: keep tooling-related downtime near zero by staging accurate, labeled, and available tools in advance, and by reacting fast and correctly to live requests during runs. What you’ll doAssemble and preset cutting tools to job setup sheets; verify correctness, label, and stage before production begins.Proactively coordinate with second-shift machinists and setup techs so critical tooling is ready ahead of every job start.Respond immediately to live tooling needs; replace broken or worn tools without creating delays.Flag shortages, quality concerns, and pending stockouts to the Tool Crib Supervisor and second-shift leadership before they escalate.Own the key metric: minimize machine downtime caused by tooling issues.Operate a best-in-class tool cribIssue/receive tooling, holders, inserts, and consumables; record all transactions accurately in M2M (ERP/tool tracking).Maintain an intuitive layout—high-run items front-accessible, every location labeled consistently so anyone can find parts in under 60 seconds.Monitor fast-moving consumables and escalate replenishment needs early—never let critical items hit zero.Support cycle counts and physical inventories; reconcile discrepancies and report findings.Keep the crib clean, orderly, and OSHA-compliant throughout the shift.Be the floor’s go-to partnerWork directly with machinists and setup teams; anticipate needs and build the relationships that keep production smooth.Troubleshoot basic tooling issues; escalate wear or breakage patterns that hint at setup or programming problems.Prioritize based on schedule impact; know the hot jobs and treat their tooling accordingly.Perform basic tool reconditioning (insert swaps, holder cleaning) as directed.Follow ACME EHS protocols and immediately report any hazardous conditions.QualificationsRequiredAvailability to work 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM.Experience in a manufacturing or machining environment and familiarity with shop-floor dynamics.Basic knowledge of cutting tools (inserts, end mills, drills, holders) or machining fundamentals, with a willingness to learn more.Ability to read and interpret job setup sheets and tooling assembly instructions.Exceptional organization and attention to detail—crib accuracy prevents scrap.Self-directed, effective time management on second shift with limited supervision.Physically able to lift/carry up to 40 lbs and remain on your feet for the shift.PreferredCNC tooling assembly/presetting experience (Kennametal, Sandvik, Iscar, or equivalent). Background in contract machining, job shop, or high-mix/low-volume environments.Familiarity with ERP or tool tracking systems (M2M, Toolroom Manager, or similar).Experience in AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified facilities.History of second-shift work—comfortable with the 3:00 PM–11:30 PM pace.Success looks likeAccurate, labeled, and ready-to-run tooling before every job.Rapid, error-free fulfillment of live requests during runs.A spotless, clearly organized, and fully documented crib.Consistently low tooling-related downtime across the shift.
