Job summary

Ascendion in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a hands-on CNC machinist to program parts using templated CAM programs, operate industrial CNC equipment, and ensure on-time delivery.

You’ll gain exposure to Fusion 360, CAD/CAM templating, and 5-axis setups while collaborating with design and engineering teams. The role offers training in prototyping workflows and opportunities to grow in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360 or equivalent).
  • CNC machine operation, hobby or commercial grade.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D/3D digital design files.
  • Experience in a prototyping shop environment.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, or related.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently program parts using templated CAM programs in Fusion 360.
  • Load and unload materials, check machine status, and launch jobs.
  • Remove finished parts, clean and post‑process as required.
  • Update task management platform to keep requesters informed.
  • Maintain equipment using SOPs and ensure tools/materials are on hand.

About The Role:
  • You will work hands‑on in the operation of industrial‑grade CNC machining equipment, programming parts using templated CAM programs, communicating with customers, and ensuring that we deliver on‑time.
  • As Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining is a critical part of our prototyping services, we’re looking for people with a background in digital design coupled with an interest in making things, and we’re willing to train the right person in the specifics of the job.
  • This role will have the opportunity to gain deep experience in Computer‑Aided Design (CAD)/ Computer‑Aided Manufacturing (CAM) templating (Fusion 360), 5‑axis CNC familiarity, exposure to industrial‑grade prototyping workflows, and direct collaboration with design and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently program parts using templated CAM programs in Fusion 360
  • Load and unload materials, check machine status, and launch jobs at regular intervals to ensure delivery commitments are made.
  • Remove finished parts from machines, clean and post‑process as required, being careful to protect or highlight key features.
  • Make updates in task management platform to keep requesters apprised of job status.
  • Using existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain equipment and ensure all tools and materials needed are on hand to ensure continuous production.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1 to 2+ years minimum experience
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360 or equivalent)
  • CNC machine operation, hobby or commercial grade
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D/3D digital design files
  • Experience in a prototyping shop environment
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, or related
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelors in a related field preferred
  • 4+ years of experience preferred

Salary Range:

The salaryfor this position is between$41,600 - $73,403 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
