Job summary

Toyoda Gosei Texas (TGTX) in San Antonio, TX, seeks a Tool Room Technician to maintain, repair, and manage tooling, dies, molds, fixtures, and related equipment used in manufacturing operations.

The role ensures tools are available, functional, and meet production and quality requirements, collaborating with engineering and production teams to support productivity and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
• 1–4 years of tool room or machinist experience.
• Proficiency in Manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, EDM).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and proper tool/machine handling.
• Understanding of metallic materials, cutting tools and machining processes.
• Experience with GD&T.
• Experience with CAM/CAD software (Mastercam, SolidWorks, EZ CAM, HSM Works).
• Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform tooling setup, maintenance, and repair, troubleshoot issues.
• Construct, repair, and maintain tools, dies, molds, and fixtures.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics to fabricate tooling.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure function and identify defects.
• Collaborate with engineering and production to optimize tooling.
• Document maintenance and maintain tool inventory records.
• Ensure safety and quality standards in tooling activities.
• Modify machines to adjust speed, feed, or cutting paths.
• Support process improvement to enhance productivity and quality.
• Track tool life and participate in kaizen.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Toyoda Gosei Texas (located in San Antonio, TX) has an opening for a Tool Room Technician in the Interior/Exterior Plastics Department. The Tool Room Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, constructing, and managing tools, dies, molds, fixtures, and related equipment used in manufacturing operations. The role ensures tools are available, functional, and meet production and quality requirements for production within Toyoda Gosei Texas (TGTX).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform tooling setup, maintenance, and repair, including troubleshooting and diagnosing issues.
• Construct, repair, and maintain tools, dies, molds, and fixtures using manual and CNC machining equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to fabricate or modify tooling and machine parts.
• Inspect and test tools, dies, and equipment to ensure proper function and identify defects.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling and support production goals.
• Document maintenance and repair activities and maintain accurate tool inventory records.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards during all tooling activities.
• Modify machines to adjust speed, material feed, or cutting paths as needed.
• Support process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and product quality.
• Track tool life
• Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts (kaizen)
• This role requires the completion of other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Certifications and Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent years of experience is required

Experience

• 1 to 4 years of experience in tool room operations or a machinist environment is required
• Proficiency in Manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, EDM)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of safety protocols and proper tool/machine handling
• Understanding of metallic materials, cutting tools and machining processes
• Experience with dimensional metrology, including GD&T
• Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is preferred
