Job summary

Toyoda Gosei Americas in Troy, MI is seeking a Product Engineer to drive product development from concept through start of production within the Functional Components Engineering group. You will develop and release designs, work with customers on specifications, and support manufacturing with robust design and process improvements.

The role requires 1–4 years of engineering experience, strong CAD skills (CATIA V5/NX), and familiarity with APQP and automotive standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
• 1–4 years of engineering experience required; strong design release knowledge preferred.
• Familiarity with APQP and automotive design practices preferred.
• Experience with plastic injection molded commodities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create APQP and engineering documents; support design from concept to SOP.
• Attend customer build events and address root cause issues.
• Negotiate with customers on product design while ensuring manufacturability and profitability.
• Provide design proposals for fluid parts using 2D & 3D tools.
• Benchmark competitor components and emerging technology.
• Provide technical reports and presentation materials to customers and internal teams.
• Improve designs and define new design guidelines to boost quality and productivity.
• Develop drawings and participate in Design FMEA as needed.
• Collaborate with internal and manufacturing partners to optimize designs for manufacturability.
• Utilize CAD/CAE systems to model designs and produce detailed drawings.
• Drive continuous improvement and kaizen initiatives.

Toyoda Gosei North America (headquartered in Troy, MI) has an opening for a Product Engineer in the Functional Components Engineering department. The Product Engineer is responsible for product development from initial concept through start of production (SOP) for the Functional Components Engineering group across Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA) and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (AMCs).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Create APQP and engineering documents. Support design development from initial concept through SOP. Attend customer build events and root cause issues.
• Negotiate with customers on product design, styling and engineering requirements while ensuring manufacturability and profitability
• Provide design proposals for automotive fluid parts or other components utilizing 2D & 3D design tools.
• Complete benchmarking examinations of competitor’s components and emerging technology.
• Provide technical reports, open items list and presentation package to customers & internal departments
• Improve designs & define new design guidelines to be adopted by the group to improve quality and productivity
• Create and maintain records of product development as required by our quality system
• Work with customers and other internal groups to resolve component functional problems.
• Develop drawings as necessary and participate in Design FMEA, as required.
• Continue to improve the product development process to provide a higher level of service to our customers.
• Demonstrate basic project management expertise.
• Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety
• Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials
• Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability
• Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings
• Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts (kaizen)
• This role requires the completion of other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience, And Skills

Certifications and Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent years of experience is required

Experience

• 1 to 4 Years of experience in Engineering are required
• Strong understanding of general design and engineering release activities is required
• Strong understanding of various phases of APQP from initial concept through post-production is preferred
• Familiarity with automotive standards, concepts and practices is preferred
• Previous experience with plastic injection molded commodities is preferred
