Job summary

Laborup in Connecticut seeks an experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinist to join a high-precision shop serving aerospace, defense, and semiconductor sectors. You will set up and machine complex, tight-tolerance components on CNC lathes, with live tooling and multi-axis turning.

This 2nd shift (Mon-Thu 2:30 PM–1:00 AM) offers 4x10s, OT opportunities, and competitive pay of $35/hour with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and disability coverage.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to independently set up CNC lathes.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.
  • Experience with multi-axis turning and live tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete CNC lathe setups for complex precision components.
  • Set tooling, workholding, offsets, coordinates, and cutting parameters.
  • Operate machines with live tooling, C-Axis, Y-Axis, and sub-spindle where applicable.
  • Read and interpret drawings and tolerances, prove out jobs, and adjust as needed.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, workholding, dimensional, and machining issues.
  • Make G-code, tool, and offset adjustments as required.
  • Perform in-process inspection with micrometers, indicators, and gauges.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinist to join a high-precision manufacturing operation supporting the aerospace, defense, and semiconductor industries.

This position will focus on setting up and machining complex, tight-tolerance turned components in a highly technical, high-mix manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has a strong CNC turning background, can independently perform setups, and is comfortable troubleshooting and making adjustments at the machine.

2nd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 2:30 PM–1:00 AM

  • Four 10-hour shifts
  • Fridays off
  • Overtime opportunities available
  • Pay: $35/hr

What You'll Do:

  • Perform complete setups on CNC lathes/turning centers for complex precision components.
  • Set tooling, workholding, offsets, work coordinates, and cutting parameters.
  • Set up and operate machines with live tooling, C-Axis, Y-Axis, and sub-spindle capabilities where applicable.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Prove out jobs and make necessary adjustments at the machine.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, workholding, dimensional, and machining issues.
  • Make G-code, tool, and offset adjustments as necessary.
  • Perform in-process inspection using micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Maintain tight tolerances and ensure parts meet customer and engineering requirements.
  • Work closely with CNC programmers, engineering, and quality to improve turning processes.
  • Support both new and established jobs in a high-mix precision manufacturing environment.
  • CNC lathe/turning setup experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience independently setting up and running CNC lathes.
  • Experience with multi-axis turning, live tooling, C/Y-axis, and/or sub-spindle machines strongly preferred.
  • Strong blueprint reading, GD&T, and dimensional inspection skills.
  • Experience machining complex, tight-tolerance components.
  • Working knowledge of G-code and CNC program adjustments.
  • Experience with Nakamura-Tome, Hardinge, or similar CNC turning equipment is a plus.
  • Mastercam experience is a plus.
  • Aerospace, defense, semiconductor, medical, or other high-precision machining experience strongly preferred.
