Nelson Connects seeks a hands-on CNC Research Technician in Oakland, CA to set up, run, and troubleshoot a Haas VF2 for research and prototype machining. You will develop CNC programs, test tooling and fixturing, and interpret drawings and GD&T while documenting results and process improvements.

Qualifications

Hands-on CNC machining and setup experience.
Experience with 3-axis CNC mills, preferably Haas VF2.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, workholding, and machining processes.
Experience using precision inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make process adjustments.
CNC programming experience is highly preferred.
Strong attention to detail and a practical, hands-on approach to R&D.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate a Haas VF2 CNC mill for research, development, and prototype machining.
Develop and test CNC programs, tooling, workholding, and machining processes.
Perform machine setups, tool changes, offsets, and basic troubleshooting.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
Inspect machined components using precision measuring tools.
Document machining results, process improvements, and test findings.
Collaborate with engineers and technicians to improve machining processes and part quality.
Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient machining environment.
