Atlas Magnetics, Inc. in California is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to program, set up, and run production machines for precision components used in aerospace and defense applications.

You will review drawings, GD&T, and CAD models, develop tool paths, maintain setups, and ensure compliance with AS9100/ISO 9001. Strong problem-solving and teamwork required. Experience with Mastercam/SolidWorks and multiple control systems is preferred.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CNC Programming: Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for production machining; develop programs from engineering drawings, CAD models, and customer specifications; program CNC mills, CNC lathes, and/or live-tooling equipment; use CAM software and/or manual programming; develop efficient tool paths; modify existing programs to improve quality, efficiency, and repeatability; perform program prove-outs and corrections; verify programs prior to production; maintain organized and controlled CNC programs; support revision changes and maintain proper revision control. CNC Machine Setup: Set up CNC machines for production runs; install and qualify tools, holders, fixtures, and workholding; establish work and tool offsets; verify setup against traveler and engineering requirements; perform dry runs and single-block checks; confirm tooling/material/fixtures/inspection equipment availability; adjust setup to maintain dimensional requirements; troubleshoot machine, tooling, and programming issues. Machining Operations: Operate CNC equipment; perform milling, turning, drilling, tapping, boring, reaming, threading, and other operations; machine aluminum, stainless steel, steel, brass, copper, titanium, and other materials; maintain tolerances and finishes; monitor and replace worn tools; make offsets/adjustments; monitor performance and abnormal conditions; minimize scrap/rework/downtime; maintain efficient production rates while protecting quality.

BLUEPRINT REQUIREMENTS:

Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings; understand dimensional tolerances and limits; interpret GD&T; understand datum structures and feature control frames; interpret surface finish requirements; identify material specifications and conditions; understand machining symbols and notes; followed customer specifications and special processing requirements; review CAD models and/or STEP files; identify manufacturing issues before machining; communicate questions/discrepancies to Engineering or Management.

INSPECTION AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform first-piece and in-process inspections; use precision measuring equipment; verify dimensions against drawings and travelers; document inspection results; identify nonconforming product and notify Quality; do not knowingly pass defective/nonconforming parts; maintain identification and traceability; follow QMS procedures; follow AS9100/ISO 9001 requirements when applicable; support First Article Inspection; maintain documentation and production records

TOOLING AND PROCESS DEVELOPMENT:

Select cutting tools; determine speeds/feeds/depths/strategies; evaluate tool wear and improve tool life; recommend new tooling; develop and maintain setup sheets; develop tooling lists and setup documentation; assist Engineering with manufacturing processes; identify cycle-time reduction and efficiency opportunities; assist fixture/workholding development; recommend quality/profitability process improvements.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follow company safety policies and procedures; wear required PPE; maintain clean and organized work area; properly handle tools/coolants/lubricants/materials; follow machine safety procedures; report unsafe conditions; use guards and safety devices; follow Lockout/Tagout when required; maintain housekeeping and support FOD prevention. AEROSPACE / DEFENSE QUALITY REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing is preferred. Must understand product conformity, material traceability, configuration control, revision control, First Article Inspection, customer specifications, special process requirements, nonconforming material control, FOD prevention, counterfeit material prevention, product identification/traceability, and accurate production documentation. Ability to work within an AS9100/ISO 9001 quality environment is highly desirable.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of CNC machining experience (preferably precision manufacturing); demonstrated CNC setup and programming experience; ability to independently troubleshoot machining/programming issues; experience machining close-tolerance components (.0002).

Technical Skills: Strong CNC programming and blueprint reading; knowledge of GD&T, speeds and feeds, cutting tools/tooling selection, workholding/fixturing; ability to calculate dimensions/offsets; ability to use precision measuring instruments; ability to troubleshoot machining problems; ability to read/understand manufacturing travelers. Computer Skills: Preferred experience with Mastercam, SolidWorks, GibbsCAM, AutoCAD, other CNC/CAM software; Fanuc, HAAS, Okuma CNC controls preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Stand for extended periods; walk throughout facility; lift/move materials and tooling; frequent hands/fingers precision work; bend/reach/stoop/maneuver around machinery; safely handle parts/tooling/inspection equipment; lift up to approximately 50 pounds with assistance for heavier items.
