Job summary

AeroTEC is seeking a highly experienced 5-axis CNC Programmer for the Moses Lake facility. The role focuses on programming, setup and operation of CNC milling machines to manufacture aircraft parts, with involvement in CAD-based design and tooling development.

Responsibilities include estimating programming times, coordinating with engineering, and driving process improvements to ensure high-quality production. This is a day-shift, on-site position at the Aerospace Flight Testing Center location.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; CNC machining certificates preferred.
• Ten+ years of CNC programming experience for milling (3,4 and 5 axis).
• Minimum 3 years of CNC programming using NX (milling; 3,4 and 5 axis).

Responsibilities

• CNC programming: analyze drawings and CAD models to create machining strategies and ensure programming accuracy.
• Setup and machine operation support: create setup sheets and assist with machine setup during peak production.
• Project estimation and planning: estimate programming times, machine times and materials; develop basic work plans.
• Engineering collaboration: liaise between engineering and manufacturing; assist with models, fixtures and tooling.
• Process improvement: analyze machining processes and implement updates to programming and techniques.

AeroTEC’s Manufacturing Center provides operational and facility requirements to support Fabrication, Quality, Instrumentation Installation & removal, and site safety (EH&S/SMS). The AeroTEC Manufacturing Center is responsible for providing resources and facilities for fabrication, quality, manufacturing, instrumentation installation and equipment to support customer requirements.

About the Role

The 5 Axis CNC Programmer is responsible for programming, set-up and operation of CNC milling machines to produce parts. In addition, this position assembles aircraft parts, fabricates parts for warehouse projects, and researches and completes purchase requisitions for projects and designs products using CAD software.

In This Role You Will:

• CNC Programming
  • Analyze technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to create efficient machining strategies.
  • Maintain accuracy in programming for quality and adherence to specifications.
• Setup and Machine Operation Support
  • Create detailed setup sheets and documentation to guide machine operators.
  • Assist with machine setup and operation during peak production times or complex jobs.
  • Conduct test runs to ensure accuracy and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Project Estimation and Planning
  • Estimate programming times, machine times, and materials needed to complete projects efficiently.
  • Develop Basic work plans to align with project timelines and production demands.
• Engineering Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering and manufacturing to ensure seamless communication and alignment on technical requirements.
  • Assist engineering in creating models, assemblies, fixtures, and tooling needed for production.
  • Provide insights and feedback on part manufacturability, tooling needs, and process improvements.
• Process Improvement
  • Analyze current machining processes to identify areas for efficiency and quality improvements.
  • Recommend and implement updates to programming and machining techniques as needed.

Qualifications: The Skills You Will Bring (Minimum)

Education

• High School Diploma
• Certification and/or Coursework in CNC Machining - Preferred.
• Certification and/or Coursework in CNC Programming - Preferred.

Experience

• Ten (10) + years of CNC Programming (milling; 3,4 and 5 axis).
• Three (3) years of CNC Programming using NX (milling; 3,4 and 5 axis).

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Infrequent travel required (<10%) to AeroTEC facilities and potential conferences and meetings (flight and automobile travel).
