Job summary

Independence Tooling is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to join our engineering team in Michigan. You will plan machining operations, interpret 3D CAD models, and develop CAM programs for milling and turning to meet tight tolerances and high-quality outputs.

You will optimize tool paths, select tooling and fixtures, calculate speeds and feeds, and test programs to improve cycle times. Experience with WorkNC/Mastercam/PowerMill/NX CAM and multiple controllers is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of CNC programming experience.
• Proficient in CAM software WorkNC, Mastercam, PowerMill or NX CAM.
• Familiar with 3- and 5-axis machining.
• Experience with common CNC controllers (Fanuc, Haas, Fidia, Heidenhain).
• Ability to read GD&T and 3D CAD models.

Responsibilities

• Plan machining operations from drawings, orders, and specs.
• Review CAD models to determine tool paths and material removal.
• Develop and optimize CNC programs for milling and turning.
• Select tooling, fixtures, and cutting parameters for efficiency and quality.
• Convert design specs into CAM programs.

Job description

Independence Tooling is actively seeking a CNC Programmer to join our team!

Responsibilities

• Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
• Review and interpret 3D CAD models to determine machining strategy, tool paths, and material removal processes
• Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs for milling, turning, and other machining operations using CAM software
• Determine machining sequences, tooling requirements, fixtures, and cutting parameters to ensure efficient production and high-quality output
• Convert engineering and design specifications into Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programs
• Perform calculations to establish proper speeds, feeds, and cutting paths to maximize efficiency and maintain tight tolerances
• Test, validate, and revise CNC programs as needed to improve cycle times, reduce waste, and ensure production accuracy

Qualifications

• 3 plus years of experience with CNC programming
• Programming experience in WorkNC, Mastercam, PowerMill, or NX CAM
• Familiar with the 3 and 5 Axis modules as well
• Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Fidia or Heidenhain controllers
• Strong ability to interpret drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and 3D CAD models
• Knowledge of CNC milling and/pr turning processes, tooling, fixtures, and machining parameters

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace, automotive or defense is a plus
