Job summary

SunSteel LLC in Sunnyside, WA seeks a skilled drafter to program CNC machines and prepare cutting lists for production. You will verify drawings, coordinate with design and production, and maintain accurate job files while supporting operators with equipment troubleshooting.

The role requires a two-year drafting background in structural steel, proficiency with AutoCAD, Excel and Word, and familiarity with Oracle/SPM/SIGMA Nesting III is a plus. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

• AA or equivalent; trade/technical certification preferred.
• Two years drafting experience in structural steel or related fields.
• Proficient with AutoCAD 2006, Excel and Word; experience with Oracle/SPM/SIGMA Nesting III is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings; good math skills; metric and standard units.
• Bi-lingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Program CNC machines per work orders and verify drawings for accuracy.
• Prepare layout drawings and material lists; provide cut-lists for production.
• Verify data and resolve discrepancies with originators and design.
• Support production with troubleshooting and equipment coordination.
• Use AutoCAD and SIGMA Nesting to create and adjust drawings and nesting.
• Maintain orderly job files and communicate changes to affected departments.

Reports to: Production Control Supervisor Hourly: $23.00 – $27.00

Location: Sunnyside, WA

JOB SUMMARY

Programs Structural CNC machines for production in accordance with workorders. Checks and verifies accuracy of drawings. Provides cut-lists for production and inventory control measures.

Essential Functions

• Examines documents such as drawings, job files, change orders and specifications to verify completeness and accuracy of data according to architect’s drawing.
• Prepares layout drawings and list of material.
• Confers with document originators to resolve discrepancies and compiles required changes to documents.
• Consult with design department for any special conditions.
• Maintains job file so that status of any job is readily available.
• Collects information from all available sources including reference drawings and other sources in-order to complete the drawings.
• Performs verification for dimension correctness and interference between elements.
• Utilizes computer assisted drafting (AutoCAD) equipment and software to verify and correct the drawings.
• Posts changes to computerized or manual control records, releases documents and work orders and notifies affected production departments.
• Checks inventory levels; coordinates with material handlers for production planning.
• Provides technical support; assists machine operators in trouble shooting equipment; confers with equipment manufactures to resolve operational issue.
• Prepare cutting lists for the plant using manufacturing drawings.
• Program digitally-controlled machines using CNC software.
• Conduct SIGMA Nesting using AutoCad and SIGMA Nesting software.
• Assists machine operators in trouble shooting equipment. Confers with equipment manufacturer to resolve operational issues.
• Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with co-workers, supervisors and clients.
• Other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent, or certification from trade or technical school in a related discipline.
• Two years drafting experience in structural steel, pre-engineered buildings, or steel joist construction; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of AutoCAD 2006, Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience with computer software including Oracle, SPM & SIGMA Nesting III preferred.
• Must have good math skills including the ability to work using both metric and standard systems.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, specifications, governmental regulations, drawings/blueprints (structural and MBS).
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to communicate effectively with customers.
• Bi-lingual preferred.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

In general, employee is exposed to a structural steel fabrication environment with excessive noise levels; occasional exposure to vibration and outside weather conditions; frequently works near moving mechanical parts; frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; seldom works in high, precarious places and is seldom exposed to risk of electrical shock.
