Job summary

CMI Group Aerospace & Defense in Phoenix area is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to develop, edit, and optimize programs for complex aerospace components. You will translate blueprints and 3D models into precise machining processes, ensuring on-time, compliant production.

The role requires 5+ years of CNC programming on 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills, Mastercam or ESPRIT CAM experience, and a strong grasp of GD&T and tooling.

Qualifications

  • Aerospace/defense manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC programming experience on 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC mills.
  • Hands-on experience with Mastercam or ESPRIT CAM software.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturing work instructions and M.O.T. (Method of Turning/Method of Traverse) sketches.
  • Thorough understanding of CNC machine function and G-Code programming, including machine probing.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Solid knowledge of cutting tools, tool geometry, and standard machining practices.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new CNC programs from engineering drawings, 3D models, and customer specifications for aerospace and defense components.
  • Create standard work instructions to support setup of new and existing CNC programs.
  • Apply prior experience with complex, close-tolerance parts and designs typical of aerospace/defense manufacturing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Select appropriate tooling and cutting parameters for a variety of machining operations and materials.
  • Design and build fixtures, workholding, and machining processes from customer-supplied blueprints and models to program machines and produce parts to specification.
  • Develop in-process inspection methods to ensure part quality and conformance throughout production.
  • Troubleshoot CNC programs, diagnose root causes, and implement process improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering to resolve issues related to process design, tooling, or fixtures.
  • Edit and convert existing programs for use on different machine platforms.
  • Develop and integrate new programming techniques and best practices to improve productivity, cycle time, and quality.
  • Navigate and update job/part information within the MRP system.
  • Maintain compliance with AS9100 and ITAR/export control requirements.

Job Summary

The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, editing, and optimizing CNC programs for complex, close-tolerance aerospace and defense components. This role works closely with engineering and quality teams to translate blueprints and 3D models into precise, efficient machining processes, ensuring parts are produced to specification, on time, and in full compliance with industry and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work is performed in both an office setting and an active manufacturing/shop floor environment.

Exposure to machine shop conditions, including noise, moving equipment, and industrial materials; appropriate PPE required in designated areas.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the production floor for extended periods.

Occasional lifting of up to 15 lbs.
