Paycom - ATS is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist in Redmond, Oregon. The role involves CAM programming, setting up, operating and adjusting tools for manual, CNC, and multi-axis machines based on 3D models and drawings to produce precise components.

You will read drawings, check tolerances with precision instruments, and verify production with steady quality. Strong CAM software skills (CAMWorks, Fusion 360, Mastercam) and 5+ years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 5+ years experience or training; CNC certificate or Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, routings, layouts and set-up sheets.
  • Experience with setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes.
  • Proficiency in CAM programming software such as CAMWorks, Fusion 360, or Mastercam.
  • Ability to verify conformance with precise tolerances using precision measuring equipment.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Work includes CAM Programming, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Works from 3D Models, blueprints, and part drawings to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, production routings, layouts, and set-up sheets.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional conformance of parts.
  • Set-up and operate various classes of production CNC machines including; lathes, vertical mills, and horizontal mills.
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, holding fixtures and tool holders.
  • Experience with the download and start-up of CNC programs.
  • MUST be able to write simple to complex CNC programs at the machine and make tool offsets and adjustments as needed.
  • MUST be proficient in various CAM programming software- i.e. CAMWorks, Fusion 360, and/or Mastercam
  • Operate manual machine tools as needed.
  • Provide training and assistance to other employees in the CNC machine cell.
  • Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.
  • Training on studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Training on the following: Set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Possesses a mid-level working knowledge of other job functions within all of the Production areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience:
    • High school diploma and at least 5 years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CNC Certificate or Associate’s degree, preferred.
  • Language Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

COMMENTS:

Computer-aided software will be utilized to perform this task, but the employee must have a working knowledge of all of the above responsibilities.

All employees are required to wear eye and hearing protection at all times while in the manufacturing area. Protective clothing provided by the company is to be worn at all times such as coveralls or shop jacket unless approved by management. Either steel toed or composite shoes or boots must be worn at all times.
