Job summary

MILBANK MFG COMPANY in Kansas City, MO is seeking a CNC Programmer to develop software for punching and forming sheet metal, providing shop and engineering support.

You will create part programs, tooling concepts, and standard work documentation, collaborating with production control, QA, and customers to meet schedules while driving Lean initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; degree in manufacturing technology preferred.
  • Experience with forming tools for turret presses and press brakes.
  • Experience with M- and G-codes for electronic and hydraulic drive equipment.
  • Familiar with sheet metal design and fabrication; experience with Striker Systems or similar.
  • Ability to analyze drawings and determine punch/form patterns; provide manufacturability feedback.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Creates written instructions for machine operators.
  • Develops tooling concepts and drives tool life improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities

The CNC Programmer is primarily responsible for developing software programs that enable accurate CNC punching and forming for sheet metal fabrication. The CNC Programmer provides technical support to the fabrication shop and engineering personnel and plans and documents machine strategies.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Develops and maintains part programs to accurately produce flat sheet metal components according to engineered specifications in conjunction with specifying blanks and minimizing scrap
  • Generates mECR’s to improve designs for quality and manufacturability
  • Utilizes part program storage protocol and create written instructions for machine operators running the programs
  • Develops tooling concepts appropriate for the configurations being programmed as well as drives continuous improvement in tool life and CT reductions through tooling advances
  • Generates proforma standard work and process information including CT, blank sizes, raw material used, part quantity for routings and BOM for new product and process improvements
  • Provides programming for prototyping and sample builds for new product development and product improvement
  • Evaluates fabrication processes to identify waste and drive continuous improvement. Specific areas of focus are single-piece flow, scrap reduction (material utilization and first piece inspection), poka-yoke, SMED and cycle time reductions.
  • Coordinates with Production Control, Quality Assurance and customer representatives to ensure compliance with schedule and quality requirements.
  • Facilitates efforts to develop specifications and justification for the acquisition of CNC machines

  • Computer skills - Can create and maintain documents in Microsoft Word and Excel and in AutoCAD; utilize Striker Systems, Solid Works and IFS

Travel Required: Less than 10%

Hours: Regular 40-hour workweek. Overtime minimal as needed.

Working Conditions: Office and/or manufacturing plant setting. Required to sit, stand and frequently move about the facility. Required to use safety glasses and other PPE in specific areas. Combination of office and plant environment. May occasionally be required to lift or move up to 50 lbs.

Experience/Skills/Abilities: Must have experience with forming tools for turret presses, press brakes, M- and G-codes for electronic and hydraulic drive equipment. Good understanding of CNC turret presses and press brakes.

  • Must be familiar with sheet metal design and fabrication, including flat pattern layout and programming. Experience with Striker Systems or similar software preferred.
  • Ability to analyze drawings, sketches and design data to determine dimension and configuration of punch and form patterns as well as provide feedback to SR Programmer to enhance manufacturability
  • Ability to apply knowledge of equipment, application techniques and design limitations to processes and generate standard work documents for the process
  • Experience with lean manufacturing techniques and continuous process improvement
