Job summary

Socket.dev in Illinois seeks a skilled CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team. You will review CAD models and drawings, develop machining instructions, and program toolpaths to achieve tight tolerances and high efficiency.

You will collaborate with CNC operators and the Mold Shop, monitor tooling, support tool design, and help implement Lean manufacturing practices while training others and maintaining organized mold files.

Responsibilities

• Review CAD models and blueprints to determine machining requirements.
• Develop machining instructions, determine operation sequence, and fixturing.
• Program toolpaths using Mastercam to achieve accuracy and efficiency.
• Check programs and run simulations before CNC release.
• Understand machine tools and CAD/CAM processes.
• Monitor cutting tool performance and change tooling as needed.
• Collaborate with CNC operators and the Mold Shop to ensure effective machining.
• Handle multiple complex tasks with independent judgment.
• Create 2D drawings and die lines from 3D models for sampling.
• Operate the sample press for prototype blisters.
• Assist with mold sampling, polishing, assembly, and other tool design tasks.
• Maintain organized mold files and production tooling docs.
• Work with Production Scheduler to meet tooling deadlines.
• Identify and correct safety hazards.
• Maintain a clean, orderly work area.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing processes.

Job description

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:

• Reviews three dimensional CAD models and blueprints to determine job specifications and machining requirements.
• Develops machining instructions, determines the proper sequence of operations, and identifies required fixturing.
• Programs toolpaths using Mastercam software to achieve dimensional accuracy, superior surface finishes, and efficient use of CNC equipment.
• Checks programs and runs simulations before releasing them to CNC operations.
• Understands machine tools and performs functions associated with computer aided manufacturing.
• Monitors cutting tool performance and changes tooling as needed.
• Works closely with CNC operators and the Mold Shop to ensure effective machining processes and see projects through completion.
• Handles multiple, complex, and diversified assignments requiring independent thinking and sound judgment.
• Creates 2D drawings and die lines from 3D parametric models for the sampling process.
• Operates the sample press to produce prototype blisters from machined molds.
• Assists with mold sampling, polishing, assembly, and other Tool Design activities as needed.
• Maintains accurate and up to date file structures for approved molds.
• Works closely with the Production Scheduler to ensure production tooling is completed on time to meet production demands.
• Identifies and, when able, corrects safety hazards.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Participates in Lean Manufacturing processes as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience working with CNC machines
• Knowledge working with SolidWorks
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read/write blueprints/drawings

• Understand the functionality of production machinery within the process flow of the company.

Compensation & Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $62,000 - $75,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for a bonus and company benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and paid holidays.
