Job summary

VulcanForms, Inc. in Devens, MA is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to develop production processes and CNC programs for precision parts. You will contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI), process development, and continuous improvement of manufacturing operations.

You will work with Creo and Mastercam to program 3- and 5-axis milling, turning, and EDM, read engineering drawings with GD&T, and ensure programs are production-ready while supporting Lean and 7S principles.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of CNC programming in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient Mastercam and 3D modeling.
  • GD&T reading and dimensional inspection understanding.
  • Fixture/workholding design using SMED principles.
  • Strong troubleshooting and independent decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Develop CNC programs using Mastercam and Creo or Mastercam.
  • Prove out programs and ensure they are production ready.
  • Support OQ/PQ activities for processes and products.
  • Develop detailed work instructions as needed.
  • Support operations with troubleshooting and technical issue resolution.
  • Maintain file and program configuration management.
  • Complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with team to achieve goals and lean objectives.
  • Adhere to VulcanForms QMS and OSHA policies; promote LEAN and 7S.

Job Purpose

As a CNC Programmer at VulcanForms, Inc., Devens, MA, you will develop production processes and CNC programs for our manufactured products. You will play a key role in New Product Introduction (NPI), process development, and the continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes. Leveraging advanced machining technologies, innovative cutting strategies, and Lean manufacturing principles, you will optimize quality, productivity, and cost while supporting production across a variety of precision machining operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use solid models and detailed prints from Creo or Mastercam to develop work holding and tooling.
  • Write CNC programs using the latest version of Mastercam.
  • Prove out programs and ensure that they are production ready.
  • Support execution of OQ / PQ activities as required for the process/products.
  • Develop detailed work instructions as needed.
  • Support operations with problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and technical issues.
  • Maintain configuration management by properly naming and saving electronic files and programs.
  • Complete all work assignments, design, and development projects with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to the team environment by accomplishing results while cohesively working as a team member.
  • Work within the framework and always abide by VulcanForms QMS (Quality Management System) and the requirements of the OSHA safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote the use and adherence to our company's 7S and LEAN philosophies.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D modeling and CAM programming using Mastercam.
  • Expert knowledge of CNC machining, including:
    • 3‑axis and 5‑axis milling
    • Single‑ and dual‑spindle turning
    • EDM machining
  • Proven ability to read engineering drawings, interpret GD&T, composite tolerances, and support dimensional inspection requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of fixture and workholding design utilizing SMED principles.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions while working independently.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality work.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting additive manufacturing production environments.
  • Experience programming complex aerospace, medical, defense, or high‑precision manufacturing components.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with ERP or MES systems.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and process validation activities.

The annual base salary range for this position is $87,000 to $120,000.
