Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, seeks an onsite CNC Machinist in Jacksonville, FL to set up and run CNC centers for complex fiberglass parts. You will work with measuring tools, maintain tool conditions, and document processes. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, standing all shift, and potential travel between locations.

Preferred candidates have a HS diploma/GED, are willing to obtain a PIT cert, and can obtain a U.S. government security clearance.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED or equivalent vocational/technical education.
  • Willing to obtain certification to operate a powered industrial vehicle.
  • Able to stand up to 8 hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and operate multiple CNC Machine Centers, machining complex fiberglass parts.
  • Maintain proper cutting conditions and measure parts with calibrated tools.
  • Document operations and meet output hours and FPY targets.
  • Cross-train on different machining centers and support lean/CORE initiatives.
  • Adhere to safety, EHS, and Collins conduct standards.

This individual will be responsible for tooling setup and machining new parts by executing programs and operating a variety of computer numerical control (CNC) or manual machines (3 axis and 5 axis CNC).

This person will liaise with other operators and departments where appropriate to ensure the Machining section meets the required demands and reports directly to the Machining Supervisor.

This position is located on Blount Island

and will possibly require some travel between our 2 Jacksonville locations, Busch Drive location and Blount Island on an as needed basis.

Work Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday – Fridays 3:00 pm – 12:00am Fridays 6:00 am – 2:30 pm)

Training will be conducted on 1st Shift for approximately 4-8 weeks Monday – Thursday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, and Pay day Fridays 6:00 am – 2:30 pm).

Relocation assistance will not be provided.

What You Will Do
  • Set-up and Operate multiple CNC Machine Centers, machining of complex fiberglass products

  • Maintain a teamworking mindset

  • Maintain proper condition of measuring instruments

  • Maintain proper cutting conditions on machining centers

  • Maintain proper documentation of executed operations

  • Meet or exceed required output hours

  • Meet or exceed Machine Shop FPY requirements

  • Meet and sustain Certified Operator requirements

  • Identify opportunities for program and work-holding improvements

  • Support and manage the machine tooling to best achieve drawing tolerances, including offset adjustments and tool wear identification

  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to coordinate activities

  • Maintain a clean and hazard free work cell

  • Achieve required part cosmetics with manual operations

  • Cross-train on different types of machining centers

  • Participate in all team stand-ups and uses safe ergonomic practices in performing job

  • Participate in EHS risk reduction activities

  • Adhere to all Collins rules and codes of conduct

  • Look for ways to eliminate safety hazards and improve the overall safety of the workplace

  • Provide continuous improvement ideas to support lean and CORE initiatives

  • Check parts using specified gages or check parts using furnished fixtures to see that dimensions are being maintained

  • Perform routine maintenance checks, reporting improper machine function and/or check parts not being held to the proper dimensions

  • May perform other job duties as required and available for overtime as necessary

  • Support CORE and 5S housekeeping practices

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/ technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

  • Must be willing to obtain certification to operate a powered industrial vehicle

  • Must be able to work in a standing position up to 8 hours per day

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Prior aerospace / marine industry experience is highly desirable

  • Prior experience utilizing various measuring/inspection techniques

  • A current transferrable US government security clearance is highly desirable

Working Environment:
  • Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort

  • Workers must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces

  • Will frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds)

  • Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers, if required

  • Daily exposure to dust particulates
