Job summary

Rytec Corporation, a Nucor company, seeks a CNC Operator to set up and operate CNC milling machines following the bill of materials and work instructions.

The role requires stage management, program loading, machine observation for malfunctions, and inspection of parts to meet specs while supporting production goals. 1st shift responsibilities and safety adherence are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Must work 1st shift: Mon–Thu 4:30am–3:00pm and be able to work independently or in a team.
  • Capable of safely operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools, general fabrication tools, and measuring devices.
  • Able to lift 50 lb frequently and 100 lb occasionally.
  • Comfortable in a manufacturing setting with high noise levels.
  • Basic reading, comprehension, and written communication skills.
  • Strong math skills for basic arithmetic and measurement conversions.

Basic Job Functions

SUMMARY:


The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC milling machines based on the specifications stated in the bill of materials and work instructions.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Plan and organize daily workload to accommodate production schedule.

  • Transport parts from racking and staging area utilizing a forklift.

  • Safely operate an Up Cut saw in order to cut parts to sizes.

  • Properly mark and stage cut parts on carts used to supply the CNC milling operations.

  • Review specification to determine setup procedures, dimensions, and machining sequences required to manufacture parts.

  • Load CNC programs into machine consoles by entering preprogrammed machine instructions.

  • Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or questionable conditions.

  • Perform detailed inspection of manufactured parts to ensure conformance to specifications while striving to maintain production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.

  • Mark and stage completed parts for the assembly process.

  • Perform routine machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Ability to work 1st shift schedule of Monday – Thursday 4:30am – 3:00pm.

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment.

  • Requires operating hand tools, power tools and pneumatic tools, general fabrication tools, and various measuring devices.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to squat, kneel and stand frequently.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is high.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and/or other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add and subtract two digits numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.



Preferred Qualifications


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
