Job summary

Martin Sprocket & Gear, Inc. is seeking a skilled CNC Machine Operator to join our precision team. You will set up and operate CNC lathe machines, interpret blueprints, apply GD&T, and troubleshoot programs to maintain quality and throughput.

The role requires strong math, measurement, and documentation skills, plus the ability to work with Okuma, Mazak, and Mori equipment. The position is on-site in a manufacturing environment with 1st shift Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
• Strong proficiency in basic math.
• Ability to accurately document machining procedures.
• Familiarity with metals, part-holding fixtures, and lathe/mill tooling.
• Experience with Okuma, Mazak, and Mori lathe machines preferred.
• Good English reading/comprehension for logs and reports.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Lathe machines, including turning, drilling, bar feeding, and live tooling.
• Optimize setup times, improve productivity, maintain offsets, and maximize machine utilization.
• Read blueprints and route instructions; apply GD&T.
• Troubleshoot programs and make necessary adjustments.
• Follow in-process inspection protocols and report non-conformance to supervisor/lead.
• Coordinate with superintendents, managers, and quality personnel to resolve quality concerns.
• Wear PPE and work safely; document issues for shift handover.
• Perform daily preventive maintenance and document findings.

What You’ll Do:

• CNC Operation: Set up full production cycle and operate CNC Lathe machines for tasks such as turning, drilling, bar feeding, and live tooling.
• Machine Optimization: Optimize setup times, improve productivity, maintain offsets, and maximize machine utilization.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and understand blueprints and route instructions.
• GD&T Application: Apply expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Program Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot programs and make necessary adjustments.
• Inspection Process: Follow in-process part inspection protocols and report non-conformance issues to the Supervisor/Lead.
• Collaborative Communication: Coordinate with superintendents, managers, production control, and quality personnel to resolve quality concerns.
• Safety Compliance: Work safely and consistently wear required PPE throughout the shift.
• Shift Documentation: Record and document issues for a seamless shift transition.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform daily maintenance checks and document findings.

What You’ll Bring:

• Measurement Proficiency: Knowledge of calipers, gauges, and other required measuring tools.
• Math Skills: Strong proficiency in basic math.
• Documentation Skills: Ability to accurately document machining procedures.
• Tooling Knowledge: Familiarity with metals, part-holding fixtures, and lathe/mill tooling.
• Machine Experience: Experience with Okuma, Mazak, and Mori lathe machines (preferred).
• Communication: Basic oral communication skills and the ability to read, comprehend, and complete logs and reports in English.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to handle heavy items, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
• Policy Compliance: Availability to work scheduled hours and adhere to all company policies, including timekeeping.
• Adaptability: Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment and stand for an entire shift.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of machining practices, materials, and general mechanical principles.
• Willingness to Learn: Eagerness to be trained and a desire to learn new skills.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Reliability: Dependable with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.

Your Schedule:

• 1st Shift, Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
