Job summary

American Leather Operations LLC in Newton, NC is seeking a CNC Operator to join our Wood Shop team. You will lead preparation of production schedules, load and program mills and lathes, and ensure parts meet print tolerances for orders across manufacturing and engineering collaboration.

You will interpret blueprints, coordinate with purchasing for materials, perform routine maintenance, and help maintain a safe, efficient production flow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of related experience; entry level possible with internship or full proficiency attained in a specific area.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints to understand work requirements.
• Plan machining activities to coordinate production schedules and work orders.
• Check inventory and coordinate with Purchasing to re-order low supplies.
• Safely load and unload materials into the machinery.
• Enter instructions and program mills and lathes for smooth operation.
• Meet tolerance environments by using gauges and measuring instruments.
• Perform regular and preventative maintenance on machines, tools and gauges.
• Follow machining process from start to finish to ensure quality.
• Isolate products not conforming to print standards.
• Troubleshoot machining problems and provide tooling improvements.
• Lubricate machinery prior to each process.
• Ensure drills are maintained or replaced to meet tolerances.
• Complete all paperwork and reports for the process.
• Maintain safe operations per procedures and regulations.
• Perform work on evenings and weekends as required.
• All other duties as assigned.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

We’re expanding and currently hiring for multiple full-time positions offering consistent 40–45 hours per week, no Saturdays, and a strong benefits package, including free access to our healthcare clinic starting on day one for employees, spouses, and children, plus two company-wide shutdown weeks.

Under the direction of the area supervisor, the CNC Operator serves as the functional leader for preparation of production schedules that require modification of parts received. The operator will interact with key team members in manufacturing, production, and engineering departments to leverage the use of the CNC machine and other tools to fulfill orders in the production environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Read and interpret blueprints to comprehend work requirements. Refer to the specifications, drawings, and reference planes as deemed necessary to complete projects effectively.
• Plan machining activities to coordinate production schedules, engineering plans, and other work order needs.
• Check inventory stock to ensure appropriate materials are available for machining needs. Coordinate with supervisor and Purchasing Department to re-order low supplies.
• Safely load and unload materials into the machinery.
• Enter instructions and program mills and lathes to ensure smooth operation of all machines and equipment.
• Meet tolerance environments of the machine by setting gauges and measuring instruments appropriately.
• Perform regular and preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, tools and gauges used in the process.
• Follow machining process from very beginning to the end to ensure quality of parts processed.
• Isolate any product that may not conform to print standards.
• Trouble shoot machining problems during the process to ensure efficiency and accuracy of all procedures. Provide tooling and fixture improvements as a result of such evaluations.
• Ensure that machinery and equipment are properly lubricated before each process initiation.
• Ensure all drills utilized are maintained or replaced to ensure correct cut tolerances to blueprint specifications.
• Complete all paperwork and reports as required for the process.
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Perform post-resolution follow-ups to client community problem requests.
• Perform work on evenings and weekends as required.
• All other duties as assigned.
