Job summary

Howmet Aerospace is seeking a CNC operator to interpret drawings and work orders, set machine controls, and verify parts with gauges. The role requires basic math, reading instructions, and attention to detail while complying with safety policies.

You may troubleshoot and optimize production programs, document changes, and perform deburrs and setups with flexibility for overtime in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ CNC mill/lathe operator experience preferred.
  • Experience verifying dimensions with micrometers and calipers.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
  • Basic math skills and computer literacy.
  • Detail-oriented with high accuracy.
  • Flexible for overtime and varied duties.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets work instructions, prints, and job orders for specs and tooling.
  • With assistance, troubleshoots and optimizes production programs.
  • Calculates and sets machine controls to work orders; regulates cutting depth, speed, feed, coolant.
  • Documents program changes to ensure repeatable setups.
  • Observes operation and verifies conformance with gauges.
  • Deburrs parts to meet blueprint specs.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures.
  • Sets up machines on a flexible basis for optimum output.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Reads and interprets work instructions, prints, and job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions
  • With assistance, troubleshoots, edits, and optimizes new production programs to ensure efficient overall production
  • Calculates and sets machine controls to specific work orders and regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed and coolant flow
  • Document new program changes and processes to ensure setups can be duplicated and overall production time is optimized
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers
  • Deburr parts to ensure they meet blueprint specifications
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Setup machines on a flexible basis to ensure optimum output throughout the shop
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Education and Experience: 1-3 years’ experience as CNC mill/lathe operator preferred
  • Experience verifying dimensions of parts, using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, thread gauges, depth gauges, and / or fixed gauges
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Flexibility in work assignments
  • Must be able to continuously perform grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and walking
  • Must be able to handle continuous standing 8-10 hours daily
  • Must be able to perform frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 70 lbs. with assistance
  • Must be able to work daily and weekly overtime as required
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred but not required
