Job summary

LV Swiss Inc. in Utah seeks an experienced CNC machinist to prepare, set up, and operate Haas 3-axis mills and Doosan lathes with Y-axis capabilities to produce high-precision components.

You will read blueprints, select tooling, perform first-article inspections, edit programs at the machine, and ensure tight tolerances while maintaining tool wear and uptime.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of proven experience setting up and operating 3-axis mills and lathes.
• Technical degree or machinist certification preferred.
• Ability to read drawings and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Set up Haas 3-axis vertical mills from scratch per travelers and blueprints.
• Install fixtures, collets, and workholding; manage tool offsets.
• Load and edit CNC programs; verify offsets; run dry runs.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections with micrometers and gauges.
• Monitor cycles, speeds, feeds, and chip control; troubleshoot tooling.
• Maintain production records and communicate status to next shift.

Job Summary

Preparing, setting up, and operating Haas 3-axis milling machines and Doosan turning centers equipped with Y-axis capabilities to produce high-quality, precision components.

Production using a diverse range of materials—including aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper, and various plastics. Interpret blueprints, select and install proper tooling for complex turning and milling operations, perform first-article inspections, and edit programs at the machine to ensure all parts conform to tight dimensional tolerances.

Education And Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required with a technical degree, machinist certification, or completion of an apprenticeship program is highly preferred or 3–5 years of proven experience independently setting up and operating 3-axis mills and lathes in a precision machining environment.

Knowledge

Material Expertise: Proven experience machining a wide variety of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper, and plastics, with a strong understanding of how each material affects tool wear, chip control, and finishes.

Control Literacy: Expert familiarity with Haas CNC controls and Fanuc-based systems common to Doosan turning centers (e.g., Doosan Fanuc i series), including the ability to read and edit G-code/M-code.

Technical Blueprint Reading: Deep understanding of mechanical drawings, engineering plans, and GD&T symbols.

Precision Measurement: Expert capability in using precision hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, and bore gauges).

Primary Job Duties:

• Machine Setup: Perform efficient setups from scratch on Haas 3axis vertical mills and Yaxis Doosan lathe according to job travelers, blueprints, and tooling instructions. Install and adjust collets, fixtures, vices, and custom work holding.
• Tooling Management: Select, preset, and install correct cutting tools and tool inserts based on material properties (e.g., managing heat in stainless steel vs. preventing melting in plastics). Set up live tooling and manage Yaxis tool offsets for offcenter milling, drilling, and tapping operations on the Doosan lathe.
• Programming & Edits: Load CNC programs (Gcode) via network links or control panels. Verify offsets, run dry runs, and make programming edits at the machine console (Haas Control and Fanuc/Doosan systems) to optimize feeds and speeds for different materials and compensate for tool wear.
• Quality Assurance: Read and interpret complex engineering prints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Conduct firstpiece and inprocess inspections using precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and thread gauges.
• Production Operations: Load raw stock into feed mechanisms or chucks. Monitor machine cycles, speeds, feeds, and chip management during complex operations like drilling, milling, turning, boring, facing, and thread chasing.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Listen to and observe machines to detect dull tooling, excessive vibration, or mechanical issues. Adjust settings or replace worn inserts immediately. Perform daily preventive maintenance, including monitoring lubrication and coolant levels.
• Documentation & Shift Continuity: Maintain accurate production records, quality data logs, and time tickets. Document and communicate machine status, tool wear, and irregularities to the incoming shift.
