Job description

CNC Operator / Multi Operator

Setup and operate CNC 3‑Axis vertical mill and computer‑controlled lathe to achieve moderate tolerance, maintaining dimensions, concentricity, and surface finishes as specified on drawings.

  • Set up and operate engine/turret lathes, vertical boring mills, and milling machines.
  • Produce standard and non‑standard products to required finishes, accuracies, and specified tolerances.
  • Write machine computer programs for dimensions specified on drawings and guidelines provided by supervisors.
  • Work from drawings, layouts, route sheets, and special instructions; make necessary computations.
  • Select proper tools, fixtures, tool holders, and holding devices to assure proper setup and operation sequences, deviating when required.
  • Obtain all attachments and devices to secure and align work properly.
  • Maintain correct relationships of surfaces, concentricities, and related dimensions to required accuracies.
  • Use all types of work‑holding devices and attachments common to the type of work described.
  • Use all measuring instruments required to verify that parts are manufactured to drawing requirements.
  • Inspect parts in accordance with sound machining practices and established inspection procedures.
  • Make required adjustments to equipment, setups, computer programs, and/or tooling to assure product quality and safe operation of equipment.
  • Notify supervisor of any changes made.
  • Vary speeds and feeds to meet requirements of metals being machined and to ensure that excessive use of tooling and inserts does not occur.
  • Perform debugging operations, as required, relative to machine function.
  • Perform other duties when directed by supervisor or as required to maintain a sound operation.
  • Make corrections to setup sheets, books, route sheets, etc. as necessary.
  • Establish reference surfaces and split casting dimensions where necessary.
  • Select, grind, set, and adjust tools in accordance with prescribed methods.
  • Work on jobs involving several positions and operations; some multiple tooling.
  • Maintain sound safety practices; follow all safety regulations at all times.
  • Keep work areas and machines clean and orderly; wash machines out after each shift and keep conveyors clean and free of chips.
  • Complete all required 5S, Daily Management metric charts, graphs, sheets, and boards.
