Job summary

BARNES Aerospace is hiring CNC machinists for multiple CT locations including East Granby and East Hartford. The role involves operating 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machines, setting up jobs, and inspecting parts in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

You will work with hard metals like Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel, reading blueprints, and making precise offsets using Fanuc controls. Strong math, GD&T knowledge, and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing preferred.
• Ability to read English, interpret operation sheets and blueprints.
• Experience setting up and changing over CNC jobs.

Responsibilities

• Operate 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC milling, turning and/or grinding machines.
• Run multiple machines simultaneously within cellular layouts.
• Machine hard metals such as Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel.
• Load parts and fixtures using hoists and position workpieces in machines.
• Make program offsets and adjustments using Fanuc controls.
• Read and interpret blueprints and CNC programs at the machine.
• Set up tools using tool sheets and ensure proper configuration.
• Inspect parts with precision measuring tools to ensure specifications.
• Maintain tight tolerances and GD&T compliance.

What You’ll Do

• Operate 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC milling, turning and/or grinding machines
• Run multiple machines simultaneously, as most equipment is part of manufacturing cells or machining centers
• Machine hard metals such as Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel
• Load parts and fixtures using hoists and safely position workpieces in machines
• Make program required offsets and adjustments using Fanuc controls
• Read and interpret blueprints and CNC programs at the machine
• Set up tools using tool sheets and ensure proper configuration
• Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to ensure conformance to specifications

What You’ll Bring

• Experience setting up and changing over jobs on CNC equipment
• Ability to read English and interpret symbols on operation sheets
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively
• Proficiency in mathematics and calculator use
• Experience making offsets at the machine
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and CNC programs
• Experience setting up and using machining tools and fixtures
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including gauges, swing gauges, calipers, and micrometers
• Familiarity with right angle head operations
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Ability to work within tight tolerances (thousandths of an inch)

Preferred Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in aerospace or high precision manufacturing
• 3+ years of experience operating CNC multi-axis milling machines: milling, turning and/or grinding
